Seems all over the place...

One week Figs starts, one week Thurston starts and another week Tyrone is starting...

Against Wake I don't even think Thurston played more than a series or two. Any idea why this is? Is he a little hurt? Suspended for something?

I understood Figs not playing against GT because he had never seen the option before, but other than that there seems to be no consistency with who plays at LB lately...and I really hope the reason for Tyrone playing so much isn't his "speed", b/c I do not see that translating much (although he has made some good plays lately)...but having him cover the slot guy just makes no sense...nothing frustrates me more than seeing a LB on their quickest WR on 3rd down..

Not sure either but we'll need a healthy dose of speed against FSU (Figs and Thurston).

Agreed but we have to believe in the coaches...I would hope we see three corners on the field when they go 3 wide

But yea i am a lil confused about out LB rotation also

Cornelius has been pretty solid. He's almost like having an extra safety out there. I think we'll see more of Figs/Thurston against VT.

the football iq on this board is amazing...you have to try to adjust to the depth chart at times against what the other teams strengths are on defense. Sometimes when your players aren't capable of doing certain things you have to put someone who can, even if that means putting a person in that can't do certain other things as well either.

Gee thanks! I think so too!

And I understand players not being capable of doing certain things and putting someone else in, hence my mention of Figs not playing against GT and how I thought that made sense...but I do not see the advantage Cornelius playing much more than Figs or Thurston in the last two games. He may be a little faster, but I think the other two are better tacklers and even probably have a higher football IQ

Be careful what you say about Cornelius. He is far from perfect, but he's made 2-3 plays this year that have saved our ***.

Cornelius is more fluid and more comfortable moving sideways and backwards. He still struggles against a guy like Campanaro but he's much more suited to play the role that he was in than Figs and Armbrister who are better moving forward and holding their ground.

Is there a reason that we don't have Shayon play inside as a linebacker in the 3-4? Whenever I see him he's on the edge, but to me he looks like he'd be a great fit playing inside.

Shayon is slow, after his knee injuries. The thing that really slowed him down was the acl injury. In high school he had good speed for someone his size. His dad and I are friends .

I like the young man a lot, yeah the guys do have a lot of respect for him. He loves the game of football,he has had some bad breaks in terms of injuries. He will bring everything he has ,he was the same way in high school. He has a high motor,I just hate that he had those injuries. He goes through a lot just to make it through a game,he is a trooper!

We've already been down that road. He is not athletic enough to be a full time linebacker.

Re: the OP, Golden and D want a "package-oriented" defense.

I'm sure it has something to do with the style of offense the opposing team has. If the team is heavily run-oriented we'll probably see more Thurston and Figs. If the team is more passing-oriented we'll see Cornelius.

Last I checked we don't have an all American like d.j playing so whoever is killing it in practice, film room and gives us the best chance against the opponent let him get it
