As a group I don't think they were challenged too much in terms of the run game b/c BC hardly ran the ball. Overall, I think it's hard to make too many judgments from this game. Next week against Kansas State will be the real test.

Perryman: Pick 6 was great, a couple other nice tackles.

Cookie: Didn't do too much, even though I thought he brought really good pressure on Perryman's pick-6 that forced a bad throw from Rettig.

EJ: A nice tackle at the line of scrimmage and a nice Forced Fumble, but not so sure he didn't get burned on that play. Still nice to see him make a play down field though.

Armbrister: Didn't do much, it's his first game as a linebacker though so I wouldn't look into it too much. His first game at all at the college level actually...

Cornelius: Didn't do much either. Had a really nice block on one of Dorsett's punt returns though.

Gaines: One nice tackle at line of scrimmage coming across the field. Quiet other than that though.

Gabe Terry: Played more at DE than LB I think. We ran an interesting package with him at DE and Chick and Shayon moving to DT... Terry also had a nice hit on kickoff coverage.

Overall, it's hard to judge too much from this one game. I wouldn't start concluding that someone like Armbrister or Cornelius is bad or someone like EJ is great because he made 2 good plays. We'll have to see how this plays out over the next few games (and probably the whole season), but this was the first time a lot of these guys saw the field so cut them some slack..

I feel like I'm the only one mentioning it, which is making me feel like a hater moreso than objective (no reason to hate), but 45 was bad yesterday. I'm talking running confidently in the wrong direction numerous times bad.

The first TD that was a TE pass to the flat was clearly his responsibility, but he had already fallen over himself from the play action so he was indisposed. The second TD by BC was a run off the edge where he and DP both got blocked bad. The difference is that DP was running to the ball carrier and 45 was running to the blocker outside of the runner - this one may be somewhat forgivable if his job was to force a cutback and contain the outside, but with how wide the blocker he engaged with was, he didnt need to meet him so wide and open up such a gap.

Bad stuff. From what I saw 44 and 52 need to be 2 of our starting backers. The problem is I'm not sure who can handle the 3rd spot (WILL), but I honestly think Gaines might be a better option than Buchanan there. Would have been a perfect spot to give Kirby a shot at, but he's not healthy.

Yeah, I'm not a Buchanon believer.

Watching the reply, Terry jumps off the screen in terms of his quick-twitch, change of direction and motor. He will make game-changing plays this year and beyond.
