Pretty sure CTE has NEVER worked an insanity defense in the history of common law. Two types of mental deficiency pleas: 1) competence to help with own legal defense and 2) insanity. Completely different standards and purposes between the two. He was clearly competent enough to help in his own defense, so that is completely out as a possible plea. Most states have a "right - wrong" standard for insanity plea. So the question is whether Hernandez could tell the difference from right and wrong, not whether he had brain damage. Dude was liked to shoot people who "disrespected him" in the face. Since he also tried to cover up his shootings, that basically eliminates the possibility that he didn't know what he was doing was wrong. So by any legal standard, Hernandez WAS responsible for the murders.
