OT: How did FIU land two 4 star JUCOs?

So this is going to turn into a Butch bashing thread and I‎t shouldn’t

I will never understand the hatred for Butch on here.

The problem is that guys like continue to prop this dude up no matter what. Everyone appreciates dude and all he did for Miami but **** he’s gone, not coming back and has another job. It’s almost cult like. Every single chance y’all get, Butch this and Butch that. Then you guys act like he is flawless. You’re not allowed to say one bad thing about the dude. So ppl get tired of the Butch worship and lash out. Unfortunately, it comes off as Butch hatered.

Until mark got fired, it seemed stupid to me to consider anyone other than butch to replace golden. He guarantees a nfl team. Mark offered a very attractive choice. Lower risk than butch but also lower possible return. I like long shots for the payoffs so I would still have preferred butch but knew mark was going to get the job. Nice recruiter, better game day coach, no history of trouble, but almost even money with little hope for dynasty type team in three years.

Fans are strange. Howard dumped us but got no hate. JJ too. People forget that Howard got us probation and a loss Bowl game. JJ lost two NC games plus another title in South Bend but he is god. The administration hated butch and maybe some of his haters are those who agreed with the administration about things. Butch will have 1st round picks at fiu but mark’s firing ended any chance of his return here so he will not have those 4 & 5 1st rd days again. That only happens at the U.

Nobody hates Butch. That narrative is a cop out for people who refuse to believe that the guy isn’t perfect.

Richt and Diaz are by far the best coaching pair Miami could have ever hired. I am so glad we have him as our coach. And in two years we're alerady back in a real bowl game and only one or two pieces (e.g., a QB) away from being in the playoffs.

But I've always had a special place in my heart for Butch Davis. He's self-centered, he lied and said he wasn't going pro only to go pro, he managed to offend most of Miami's administrators and backers. But he also brought us that roster from 99-02 that includes many of the greatest names to ever play. His eye for talent really is unparalleled.

So it's no surprise to me he's finding talent, and it's no surprise to me his actions continue to be controversial. I hope he doesn't create a situation which will implode on him, something he seems prone to repeating. If not, FIU could very well end up dominating C-USA (especially after Kiffin leaves FAU in a year or two). Regardless, he's no threat to Miami, and I wish him all the best.

I don't understand why Miami doesn't the Juco ranks much harder to help rebuild the roster?????

Dean was a top JUCO kid last year at CB from a Texas JUCO

Dayall Harris the WR was a JUCO

The golden years I remember getting that super fat DT from Cali who chose us over USCw, That all world TE from Arizona who transferred out

We obviously have gone JUCO when the roster mandated it

There are several juco bigs that Miami coulda gone after....also a safety to replace Jobe....look at the top 100 JUCO rankings and you will see top programs picking them up every year....seems like Miami waits to late ...should be much sooner...IMO gotta make sure you have insurance in case you get burned by the divas....

I personally love hall more than Jobe and so did saban since he chopperd over in a grand way to try and woo him before getting turned down

And I’m sure Gilbert or blades can play safety

All the responses in this thread are clueless, here's the reality:

1. 4* Teair Tart Spencer: Was an Alabama lock until he got kicked off the team at Last Chance U. That's hard to do. Lost all of his SEC offers, so only schools like FIU/FAU would take him. Huge headcase.

2. 4* Tayland Humphrey: Came as part of a package deal with his brother, 2* OL John Bolding. No major school was going to do a package deal when the good player is a Juco.

So that's the reality. FIU is taking some chances not just that Miami won't, but that literally no other P5 school won't either

Saban never gave up on Jobe, so I don't think one can say with any certainty that he preferred Hall to him. Saban doesn't quit, most relentless dude in the business as the results clearly show.

There wasn't the vitriol for Butch here before the coaching search. I think some just wanted to go in a different direction and conceived a hatred for him because they truly, and intensely didn't want him here. I think the minority of his haters were angry about him splitting town for the Browns, which is fair. Just like peoples reactions to Kirby Smarts success, some are nervous about picking the right guy again, and pro Butch stuff irks them.

I think the bashing and some of the hate comes from the Butch Davis banter that would go on here. Some People made him out to be the greatest coach of all time. Was very frustrating especially during the search.

Best of luck to him. He’s doing his thing and will have that team loaded with as much talent as he can possibly get.
