hello all, it's off topic but you guys seem knowledgeable about hs football in Miami.

I wanted to ask you guys a question.

my son (rising senior) has been receiving interest letters, camp invites (to schools and for other events), as well as calls/emails from interested college coaches.

anyone have experience with any level of college recruiting? I want to know that they're not pulling my leg on this.

The best thing to do in these situations is to navigate from generalities (broad speak) and get into the specifics.

If you want to know if they’re legitimate or not ask specifics of your son and why they’re interested in him. Ask what are the plans for him and process of development.tell him what your son likes outside of the sport and see if it is a fit not only what they say but how they respond. Are they going through extra efforts to answer questions or acomódate his questions and interests in a visit?

ask difficult questions, too. How many other guys have they offered so far for his position. Ask them about the depth chart and check online if they’re telling the truth. Etc.

If a large unmarked bag of cash arrives from a zip code corresponding to a southeastern US college town, then you will know the interest is legitimate.

Make sure you get a Sicilian to sit with you and the coaches when they visit. They can spot a liar a mile away.

Is your son an OL or LBer....If so I can give you the address to the U of M and an email address for the HC.

If they are sending letters its good, just part of the evaluation process.

Lots of kids get generic letters, camp invites, etc. If coaches are personally reaching out via phone, then their interest is legitimate. Some generic camp invite sent to you or your HS coach means nothing--if they are interested they will call you and ask you to attend. Sometimes email but you will usually know if it is a mass email or sent to you personally.

It's all a dance until official visits are given/taken. Those are scarce items (schools are limited in the number of OVs they can have IIRC.

The important question isn't usually whether there is interest, but how much interest there really is. Where is a kid on the board? That's hard to know.
