OT: aTm and Mizzou tell us about the SEC

Two middling Big12 teams come into the mighty SEC and seemingly have flourished. One or two seasons is too soon for it to be some massive improvement in the rosters that would be necessary to compete with such a mighty untouchable conference.

The only rational explanation can be that while the SEC has featured some elite teams, the overall conference is not any stronger than any other conference. Yet the media simply toes the company line, and instead of realizing the whole conference isn't all that, they inflate the two new teams. Suddenly aTm and Mizzou are elite programs when two years ago they were afterthoughts?

Its a media farce driven by ESPN. Florida, Bama and LSU won all the titles, and Scam had a lightening in a bottle season for Auburn. Aided by the NCAA systematically hammering every other CFB power bar ND. Name them, OSU, OU, USC, FSU, The U and when UNC was on the rise with Butch, they put it to a screeching halt, now what is left is what we scraped up thursday night. Its on us to beat those scumbags off their perch. Always was always is.

Don't kid yourselves...aTm would be stop the big xii. Missouri? They are in the East. No big deal to succeed in that division.

See that's the problem with the SEC. It's always "would be". How bout what they are? They weren't lighting up the BIg 12 before, and I highly doubt in one season were able to change their entire roster to be good enough to be an elite national power.

UGA and USCe have NO BUSINESS being in the top 20. The Gators should drop out of the top 25. The SEC is a total sham. It's Bama and the rest as far as the entire conference.

Its so frustrating because anyone who pays any attention can see what is going on here. Instead ESPN is going to hype TA&M and Missouri as if they are elite SEC team when just 2 seasons ago, they were considered garbage Big 12 teams who don't know how to play defense.

This line of logic sucks balls.

TAMU is clearly a better team under Sumlin than they have been for at least two decades. They beat the snot out of OU in the Cotton Bowl last season. Does anyone really think they would have been 'average' or 'middling' in the B12 last season? They would have challenged KST for the conference title. They're most likely not going to 'flourish' when Manziel and Sumlin leave.

Missouri was pathetic last season. Their only two wins were against UT and UK. This season, they're catching the SECE as bad as it's been in at least eight years. Even so, they had success in the B12 previously.

The 'elite' teams you reference have all had losses in conference, 2009 Bama and 2010 Auburn aside. The ****** Gata lost to Ole Miss one year when they took the title. LSU had two losses, infamously.

This is the first season in a long time that other conferences have clearly caught up to the SEC.

Doesn't mean the league was overrated in prior years.

Couldn't disagree more. They don't play anyone out of conference with a pulse. Everyone glorifies their upsets and says the conference has "depth". There are upsets in every conference every year. But when it happens in the BIG10, Pac12, ACC then those top teams aren't that good and the under dog gets no credit. But when a 2nd teir SEC team wins then all of a sudden the conference is soo tough because anyone can won at any time. The fact that A&M and Mizzou have come into the SEC and been competitive in the first 2 season shows that SEC is a normal conference.

This sums it up. What the SEC likes to do is play in a bubble so that they don't get exposed in non conference play. As long as they continue to hype up the SEC teams it looks like they have a great SOS. The conference is strong and still the best one, but not as far ahead of the other conferences as they would have you think.

$ec perception is not always reality.

This, also, is a ridiculous line of logic. Some SEC teams play good to elite OOC matchups annually. Bama, Auburn, LSU, and USC come to mind. UF, of course, is embarrassing with their OOC scheduling, but they're not the entire conference. They play them at home, or neutral sites, but they do that because they can get away with it. LSU doesn't have to travel to Oregon to get a game. We actually turned down a similar game against LSU recently, so I don't think our horse needs to be too high.

And, I can't find a conference whose power teams all consistently do better. Their model of scheduling - one solid game, two FBS teams you should beat, and an FCS squad - is pretty standard currently across all conferences. Hopefully that changes with the playoff here. Currently, though, what do y'all expect them to do? Schedule more difficult slates than the rest of CFB, just to prove they're that good? Absurd.

I don't enjoy white-knighting for the SEC. Bama holds a special place of hate in my heart. Even aside from U***.

But U folks mad.

Again, you are just assuming that all theses SEC teams are weaker than their counterparts in other conferences. Why? We saw Clemson beat a full strength UGA, and Clemson isn't even elite. We beat a full strength UF, and we aren't elite. VaTech, the supposed 4th best ACC team, gave Bama their toughest game of the year.

There is no logical way to argue that the SEC is as a whole a superior conference.
