I spent the better part of this week being concerned, worrying , that we might ***** this season up. Hoping we don't choke away what we have going.
But now I realize that today is a HUGE opportunity for this team and program.
To be clear, we haven't done squat in forever. Therefore, it doesn't make sense for me to worry about holding on to what we've got right now (high ranking, one loss). We haven't accomplished anything...we ain't got ****. Yet.
What we do have is a chance to truly take the next step. On a macro level.
Sure, I think most of us see day-to-day (micro) improvement. I don't hesitate in the least to say we're finally headed in the right direction, generally.
But today we have a chance to shape a SEASON. Today we have an opportunity to solidify our trajectory towards a conference championship game. Huge step. We have a chance at a Top 10 ranking LATE in the season, not just some blip on the radar in week two or three. We're going to find out if we're in for more bright lights and games of true significance. ACCCG and BCS/respectable bowl games.
Or we can just begin slipping back towards insignificance, as we've done so often lately. Low or no ranking, no game to play in during conference championship week, crap bowl game. We know how all that goes.
And we have every excuse. Just lost to our rival. Duke, our most talented player and difference-maker - donezo. To add insult to injury (no pun intended), Dorsett is out. Our QB is flirting with throwing his senior season down the toilet.
But I see today as awesome. The kind of challenge we should be desperate for. The kind of challenge we MUST overcome in order to take our rightful place. I'm ecstatic that we face that challenge TODAY, instead of having to wait until next year. We can swing this whole **** "process" into results TODAY. Again, on a macro level.
We've had ups and downs this year, mostly downs the past few weeks. But I'm ridin' hard today. I can't wait for his opportunity. I hope our boys are up.
BEAT VT!
