On the Defensive Scheme

D'onofrio gets a lot of **** on this board, but let me explain a few things:

Against UF the man did not play call conservative at all. Why? UF has the horses, they have talent, if you allow them to dink and dunk they will destroy you. So naturally D'o calls up an aggressive defensive scheme.

When playing a Wake or UNC he plays conservative, why? These teams do not have the talent. ****** teams beat good teams off of big plays, not off of consistent high level performance, because if they could sustain high level performances they would not be a ****** team. They thrive off the big play which gets the D out of formation and shifts the momentum by an insane amount. Going back to wake the example was clear, they had only one touchdown from a sustained drive. ONE. Count it, the first one. That drive only succeeded due to awful tackling which allowed them to generate YAC on third down. The point is Wake was not good enough to sustain that performance, and it showed. The other two touchdowns came from big plays from when the defense was playing aggressively in man coverage, this led to Burns getting beat and Cornelius falling all over himself. So the count is 2 touchdowns in aggressive, 1 in passive (which shouldn't have been if the defense tackled correctly, but I digress). UNC also got most of its points from when the D was playing aggressive.

Now for those of you worried about D'o's press conference, where he announced he wouldn't change anything, obviously he will say that. What were you expecting? Him to show his cards? Obviously not, FSU has the horses and you have to playing aggressive D. D'o knows this, just watch the D against Florida. We will be playing in a similar package.

TLDR: If its a top team, take the fight to them, if its a bad team make them prove themselves consistently because they can't sustain it (they will regress to the mean)

Good stuff. I would also like to say that if you watch the D in the second half, things are a little different. It is clear there are some adjustments and the scoring goes down. WF (7 Points off missed tackle) and UNC (6 points) were unable to have MUCH success in the second half.

These press conferences don't dictate anything. You can say whatever and do the opposite.

Good evaluations... Stans gonna be stans and think they know best... We'd be 2-5 if we listened to our stanbase fockery:ohlord:

Let's hope it's true. To beat FSU we are going to have to blitz more and call way more complicated packages. I hope it doesnt lead to breakdowns.

He seems to make very good adjustments at half time, he has earned a lot more trust from me this year.

So what you are saying is, against FSU we wont be in base D against 3-4 wide? We wont rush 4 the majority of the time? We will come after Jameis? I am all for it, Hooray for dorito!

coach D also knew that Ebron from UNC and campiniia number 3 for wake...were studs and top 10 WRs in the country..yet we could not stop them..we shut down Ebron in the 2nd half yet Camp guy killed us the entire game..burning every corner we put on him...

FSU has 3 stud NFL guys and Oleary...and a top 25 rushing attack to boot...coach D has his hands full for sure.
