As reported by Gaby Urrutia at 247, Arizona transfer CB Emmanuel Karnley is set to visit Miami this weekend. He is from the East Bay area of California (between Oakland and Stockton). A Miami source says he has elite length (6'3), he's twitchy, fluid, and moves like a smaller guy. "Sticky in coverage and physical. Would have made us a lot better this year."

I understand the negativity at the position given the recent history, but I'll note that his first visit is to Ole Miss (which has a strong track record with Portal DBs) and his next visit is to Michigan.

I don't get the sense that Chasen Johnson from UCF is a significant target.

We expect to take 2-3 CBs.

With their evals, coaches haven't earned the right to be given the benefit of the doubt when it comes to DBs. Go get the guys who have proven it on the field and pay them a lot. Plug and play starters first. Then go get the guys who have the characteristics you want for depth/future teams.

Agreed with the 1 caveat I will wait to see what Chevis does. Wasnt he hired like 10 months ago? So while he still has not earned the benefit of the doubt I cant say I dont trust his evals since I dont think he has made 1 yet.

You gotta be kidding right? I know you simply share what is being said but this is hilarious..."Sticky"? At what? A posted note is stickier than this guy. He was getting toasted all last year. It can't be this hard...it really can't.
I ask this honestly and not being defensive: have you seen him play? I haven't, and I doubt many others have either.

That doesn't mean he'll be good. I didn't see Terry Roberts play before he came here and stunk. But I wonder how much (earned) distrust of our DB evals is driving this reaction.

And if people distrust our DB evals, which is understandable, do they trust Ole Miss? I've seen a lot of people saying we should be more like them.

This kid has college tape out and he doesn't look good. This is against UCF by the way.

Yet you're posting his HS film here and commenting about his length and how he moves like they're evaluating a high school player.

No need to evaluate and project him..he played in college already against D1 guys and he's not very good.

There's a bunch of kids out there who are in the portal and have looked GOOD against D1 wide receivers. And none of them are visiting or getting offers?

Someone posted some tape of him in another thread and it wasn't pretty. His PFF grades weren't good either, for whatever that's worth.

If the plan is to take 2-3 corners in the portal, that's great. Take 3 and if one is a guy like this who has years left to develop and has the length - pause - and athleticism I guess that's okay. A bit strange considering the number of corners we've signed the last two classes, but whatever.

The issue is we need corners who can step in and start right away. We have 1 on our roster coming back who showed consistent ability to play at this level, and he just got put in a blender against 'Cuse.

Just from an information management perspective, it's bad form to leak that the Arizona corner is visiting first, when there's a ton of plug and play starter types already in the portal. I assume Chasen Johnson visit news was just bull**** put out by his agent and there was nothing we could do about that.

Sorry for the whining, and I hope we get a couple of guys who can start right away in the portal.
