The explosive plays and lack of alignment and communication has been the big issue. I’m sure the metrics are fine otherwise. It’s still unacceptable

Per the ACC stats we should be able to run against Syracuse (15th) and pass against SMU (11th) otherwise SMU is our equal in the other categories. Take a look!

You picked one category Yards perplay where 1 through 9 there is little difference. Also we play in the ACC and haven't won a title yet, the ACC stats are encouragingas we lead both offense and defense

The GT games was as much on the offense as it was the defense.

The D has played just well enough to win in every game this season.

this and scoring defense are the correct metrics.

people forget. a team can run 25 plays a game (exaggerating for a purpose) for 250 total yards. the total yards would be great. the yard per play? not so much

Funny thing about numbers is you can make them say whatever you want if you know how to

I have been saying this all season but our Defense is not as bad as people say it is.

But the D is also not as good as we all want it to be (obviously).

As has been said ad nausueam our tackling is not up to par and neither is the communication in the back 7. We also seem to be so bad in key moments on 3rd down and 4th down.

That said, teams do seem to go for it more on 4th down and do things they do not usually do against other teams like Fake FGs and Punts. Or at least give us formations and looks that make us confused (offensively and punts).
We need to get better at preparing for those things especially. Hopefully Wake is the game we look back at and say we started to progress as things get better from that point on.
I will not be all sunshine and rainbows though. I know we can still regress or go back to bad habits and concerns. That is when we will need the offense and Special Teams/ Kicker to pick us up and win.
Football is about all three phases.
