Edit: Interview with Golden

Found this article which goes into some depth about his past coaching experience and mentors... Belichick, Parcells, Groh, Peterno, Crennel, ect. He learned the culture and the x and o's from some of the best at the highest level of football. The youngest d coordinator followed by the second youngest head coach, and he wants to be in Miami at 50 years old. A lot of us already know about this stuff but this is a must read for those who don't.

Great article, thanks for posting. I agree, I also loved his answer about the NFL. It all makes sense now why he is here and why he never flinched when all this NCAA stuff hit the fan. He has worked his way up to the top and didn't take any shortcuts along the way. He was smart enough to be a sponge and soak in all the good he learned from his mentors but at the same time hold onto his core beliefs. From this article you see why our program and team have turned the corner under his leadership. There is no doubt in my mind that Coach is the right man for this job and i know he will restore our CANES to their rightful place at the top of College Football.... It's great to be.... GO CANES

My favorite part of the article. **** guy is a robot and won't be outworked:

LICN: Can you give us a sense of what your busy calendar is like?

AG: During the season I go in to work at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday and get home 10:30, 11 at night. Then I’m basically in at 5, 5:15 a.m. or so every day of the week. Monday night we’re done at 10, Tuesday or Wednesday, we’re usually home at 8. Thursday we get home around 7, and Friday we travel away, or go to the hotel when we’re home, and then we play the game Saturday and we do it all over again. That goes until the season is over, and then the head coach can be out recruiting for six weeks all over the country. Signing day comes, and then when that’s over we have about three weeks to get ready for spring ball, and when that’s over I go on our development tour, where we raise money and see alumni. We went to Chicago, New York, Atlanta, Fort Myers, Naples, Tampa, Orlando, and then obviously south Florida this year. That took me right up until Memorial Day weekend. And then in June we host our five football camps. We had 2,050 campers this year that came through, and we prepare all of our summer practices for our opponents and then we’re off until we start August 1. So this time off is really it.

Picksix won't like this portion of the interview:

LICN: Do you have any desire to coach at the NFL level?

AG: No. It’s always been about the college game for me. It’s what each individual likes. I’m very much a student leader, in that I try to make sure that we’re doing everything that we can to teach core values and develop young people. We can’t cut them. That’s the difference. In the NFL if somebody’s not good enough, they cut them and get a new one. To be dismissed from our team someone would have to really be not doing well in school or be making bad decisions off the field. But other than that, we’re going to develop them and try to create independence, self-reliance, and the life skills that young people need to flourish after their collegiate years are over. For us, we just believe that winning begets winning. And if you’re winning in terms of your community service, your process, your studies or decision making off the field, ultimately you’re going to become a winner.
