I know I'm not the only football geek out there that follows coaches.
So I'm posting my .02 below on some of the recent coaching changes that have
piqued my interest.
Comments are welcome!

My head coaches to look out for....

1) Dino Babers: did a nice job at Eastern Illinois, especially on the offensive side of the ball, developing
a QB (Garroppolo) who may get drafted high in the upcoming NFL draft. He has ties to Art Briles as well.

2) Derek Mason: I like his Stanford background, and I like the coaching staff he has put together, especially
coordinators Karl Dorrell (OC) and David Kotulski (DC). Also, like the two coaches he stole from Frank Sordich's
staff at Ohio, especially the Oline coach Lightner as well as Marc Lubick (Sonny's son) and former NFLer Brett
Maxie.

Going to assistant coaches:

1) Ralph Friedgen-nice to see him back in coaching. So-so recruiter but awesome offensive mind.
Nice pickup by Rutgers.

2) Iowa State: they don't win many many games, but I've always been a fan of their HC Paul Rhoades,
going back to his DC days at Pitt. He seems to be always having coaches move on to bigger jobs, so
he must know what he's doing. I think his pickup of Mark Mangino as OC is masterful.
I also think his RB coach Ayeni is a riser. He won't be there long.
Rhoades' specialty is on the defensive side of the ball. He lost a very good DB coach Troy Douglas
to Pitt. Douglas had earlier worked for Jim Leavitt (USF) and UNC (Butch) among other coaches.
But now he picks up Maurice Linguist from UofBuffalo.. keep an eye on this cat as well.

3) Tom Bradley: Nice hire by WVU. Officially, Tony Gibson is the WVU DC, but I have to think Bradley will have alot of input on that side
of the ball.

4) Ron Vanderlinden: Maryland grad here, so I've followed him since he was the Maryland HC from late 1990s to 2000.
Great defensive mind, very well-connected coach who had some interesting coaches work under him at Maryland (Mike Gundy,
Pat Fitzgerald, James Franklin, Mike Locksley, etc). He was also a very underrated recruiter. Friedgen's best years at Maryland came during
his few years at College Park, when he had players recruited by Vanderlinden. Nice pickup by Air Force.

5) Larry Poter: Was a great recruiter at LSU. His career took a slight detour when he failed as HC at Memphis. But he's a valuable asset to
have on a coaching staff. Nice pickup by Larry Fedora and UNC.

6) Ray McCartney: the new DLine coach at Army. Formerly DLine coach at Wake Forest under Jim Grobe. He didn't have much to
work with at Wake, but I always felt they played hard, and he brought in alot of talent from Florida, especially Palm Beach county.

7) Randy Melvin: recently hired by FIU. Has coached DLine for many coaches like Joe Tiller, Bill Belichik, Greg Schiano and Al Golden
at Temple.

8) Hank Hughes: long-time assistant coach at UConn, mostly under Randy Edsall who I think is a great defensive mind.
Coached DLine and also had DC responsibilities.
Just got picked up by Tommy Turbeville at Cincy.
