With all this talk of defense lets get this clear. Just like we won't consistently win games without a defense we also won't without an offensive line that can allow us to run the ball effectively. Name a championship team ever that couldn't run the ball well. The formula thats been working forever is defense and being able to run the ball. Its safer, controls time of possession, and wears a defense down.

I know we have above average size and arguably above average talent but why can't we move the ball on the ground?

I'm under the belief that any decent running back can thrive with a good scheme/offensive line. I also believe UTough has make us a strong as we need to be. (But with PEDS you never know)

So its about Talent/Coaching/Scheme

What's the problem here, because I know youth isn't the excuse.

We don't run the ball enough so how can we really know how well we run the ball? Running is a rhythm game. You aren't going to produce as much when you only rush 40% of the time and pass 60%. We have the OL. People on here are really convinced they can't run block. I say that they just haven't been given much of a chance.]

I want someone to name me the last team pass-happy offense and no running game to win a national championship. I'll wait.

You're going to wear yourself out before Saturday brother.

In addition to not running it enough, my biggest problem with Fisch is running it out of the shotgun too much. We do a Raising Canes feauturing Maurice Hagens touting our FB as the "Heart and Soul" of the team and we barely use him.

If you're a shotgun team, you're a shotgun team. You can't start going into the I-form or split back sets to run more frequently, as it makes it way too easy to identify what you're doing presnap. I wouldn't jeopardize what Morris does best (throw the ball from a deep pocket) to accommodate what we don't do well (run the ball.)

People are overreacting to ND hanging onto the ball for 40 minutes. We know why they hung onto it for 40 minutes- our front four is awful and couldn't stop a third string Rudy.
Awful defense is one reason, offense can't keep the ball is also a reason.

I realize we have to run out of the gun a little to keep em honest, but we do it too much. Maybe we're more of a shotgun team because our defense makes us have to come from behind too often. IDK. Hagens is a player though and I'd like to see us use him more.

If Fisch thought he had a good OL in that could dominate a game, I'd like to think he would run more. Methinks Fisch has seen what others have seen, that Kehoe's unit is once again underperfoming in the run game. On the road, night game, hostile crowd, decent breeze= perfect environment to do exactly what ND was doing to us. Play gash mouth-smash mouth football. Either Fish is an idiot or he knows that Kehoe is. One of the other.

Dorsett said he had trouble seein the ball in the lights. Could be an excuse or could be valid seeing that this team hasn't played in any night games. Does the OC take that into account? Does the OC come out and try to establish a running game? No and No.
He knows that OL isn't up to the task. So he does what he can to compensate for them.

The team playing for a championship and a fan base 'expecting' one are two entirely different things.

Any fan expecting a national title this year was a moron.

Bro. You think that Glenn Cook and Romeo Davis would have balled had they went to USC. As far as I'm concerned, you don't know your *** from a hole in the ground when it comes to football.

I think our interior 0-line is finesse.....good pass blocking but not much push.
