Offensive line recruiting philosophy

We are in YEAR FUUCKING 1 of Butch Barry and his philosophy of recruiting athletic guys instead of fat asses. (which is what Whisky does) Can we please give him a couple years to see what he can get going. I think we will have a great line in a few years if we stay the course (the one we JUST plotted) What kind of change did you expect

Like I've said. Decades ago, we used to get very good Wisconsin kids (e.g., Pete Banaszak). That was then. When kids came from up North, they found a team with a lot of other kids from up North. Now everybody is south Florida. Need to start recruiting a critical mass of northern kids. That would be hard to do but we need to expand our recruiting horizons. Maybe we should start looking into Canada again. We got some decent players from Canada.

Wisky has turned our historical recruiting strategy on its head.

They load up on country strong farm boys for the lines, LB, FB, and TE and then target fast twitch RBs, WRs, and DBs from Florida and the northeast.

Now they are starting to get highly rated QBs to go with that system.

My wife went to Wisky and this whole situation pains me.

Asking this fan base to be patient and let coaches develop is like asking them for their 1st born. They can’t and won’t comprehend that. 4 games in and most of them are ready for a whole new staff. You talking with too much sense.

Let me guess. You only want plug and play offensive linemen recruited here from now on. You are as delusional as the idiots making statements like that if you think we could have hired a significantly better OL coach. I think he is going to do a great job here. Recruits and players all speak about him with respect. I've heard a couple kids we are trying to recruit say they have applied some of his teaching to their game in H.S. Not exactly bum status so far, but go ahead thinking we should have top tier OL coaches banging down UM's door to get a job.

How does his unit look on the field ie the only thing that matters? They don’t finish blocks, can’t pull, and generally don’t know their assignments. That’s coaching hon.

that’s on players. You think the coach is not drilling them to finish blocks. They physically can’t. 53 and 60 can’t. But it’s on the staff for putting them out there. But once there out there it’s on them to pull, get off the snap and finish blocks

It's about development not recruiting. We've recruited plenty of high-rated OL. Most of them top out as above-average at best. Right now Gaynor is our most limited OL and arguably the best performer. Unless you're recruiting 2+ Evan Neals every year you're going to have to develop and put players in an effective scheme.

Herb Hand, Bill Bedenbaugh, Harry Hiestand...those guys have great OL every year regardless of attrition. I wasn't optimistic about the Barry hire and it's been even worse than I expected.
