What would the depth chart look like if we decided to redshirt every true freshmen in 2014?

QB Heaps - Williams -Olsen - Crow

RB Johnson - Edwards - Tucker - Johnson

FB Tucker - Regula

WR Dorsett - Waters - Scott

WR Coley - Lewis - Jones - Kidd

TE Walford - Sandland - Dobard - O'Donnell

LT Flowers - Harvey

LG Feliciano - Wells

C McDermott - Gall

RG Isidora - Knighton

RT Gadbois - Odogwu

Redshirt the following:

Kaaya, Rozier, Yearby, Brady, Langham, Berrios, Herndon, Njoku, McDermott, Darling, Linder, Grimley, Brown

OL might be kinda thin but I think we could get away with it.

Why would we redshirt every freshman?

McDermott will be in the 2 deep as will Darling IMO.

Pretty sure Berrios will be helping in the return game and J. Yearby will be in the rotation behind Duke.

You don't redshirt to start that season. That gets determined following seasons end. In a pinch we may need a couple of the freshmen.

None of those guys are ready to contribute aside from Yearby, and even he is coming off an injury.

Disagree on McDermott and Darling. the 2 of them will be in the 2 deep and will provide depth this season. Those 2 could push for a starting job if Gadbois or Isadora struggle.

From what I saw during those spring videos, McDermott has a ways to go. Harder to tell with Darling since he's a guard and wasn't getting beat on the edges. This is just an exercise in boredom. However, redshirting certain guys should be a bigger priority. Last year we kind of wasted Dobard, Grace, Carter, Tucker, Gall, Elder.

The only true freshmen who saw significant time were Figueroa, AQM, Coley, Burns and Gus.

I get the boredom thing. McDermott may have some work to do, but he's behind Flowers at LT and will likely be expected to start next season so the snaps will help him. I feel like he could also work on the right side if needed, depending on Gadbois.

Agree we should redshirt more, but at the same time we haven't had the luxury over the past years. At least this year if we play the freshman it should be in a back-up role and not as starters.

Disagree with most of this but the one thing I do agree with you on is that we wasted Elder last year. I know he is a HUGE board favorite and I love the kid too but **** we should have givin him the shirt or played him ALOT more. At this rate, we will only get one good year out of him if you let the board tell it because he will be leaving after his junior year for the league. (im exaggerating but some of yall really do love this kid)

Disagree that we need to redshirt McDerm and Darling. They definitely need to be out there getting their feet wet for 2015. They are going to be the anchors for this line for the next 3 years. Need to get them experience because protecting Kaaya or Olsen will be pivotal in 15'.

I say redshirt everyone except Yearby, McDerm and Darling. If Berrios can help us on ST then fine. If not, shirt him.

You would still have only gotten one good season out of him anyways. If a player leaves early than that RS was a waste. If guys can play and contibute then they should play.

Kaaya's not wearing a redshirt. He'll be our starting QB come Fall. #boldprediction

Agree with 1899 on McDermott.

Yearby and Berrios (if they are 100 percent) will also play this season. IMO Yearby is the second best running back we have right now. He's not a track athlete, but he's a true running back. We need to use all of our playmakers and Berrios is a tough playmaker. I think he's the least likely of the baby Canes to mess his pants when the lights are brightest. I see him helping us on special teams early and then working his way into the rotation as the season progresses.

I disagree about Berrios. I think he definitely should be redshirted. Coming off of a torn ACL, and the fact that we already have Coley, Dorsett, Scott, Waters, and Lewis ahead of him, I just don't think it's worth it.
