nutrition and the athlete

how much of a difference do you all think it would make if all these kids had great nutrition growing up? any ideas to make it better long term? me and my family may be able to help

Big difference.

I used to coach kids that might only get to eat like once a day, which was lunch at school.

If they ate anything else it would be fast food.

I used to take kids to eat and make sure they were fed. It's crazy that they were able to perform at a high level living like that. That is what builds diamonds though.
 
Nutrition is a huge deal and we have seen the difference since Richt got here. When Richt got here one of his first hires was Belemy as the team nutritionist. Felder is a quality S&C coach but having a nutritionist is the reason guys like Deejay Dallas have gained 20lbs while also losing 4% body fat.

Remember when the nutrition program under Randy was just rationing out Muscle Milk?
 
It would be the biggest advantage you can give.
The most important time in development are actually from infant to toddler and then when puberty hits. If your not getting proper food during those stages it puts you behind physically. Genetics can help out a lot even if poor nutrition is there but you need hat fuel to reach the maximum potential.
In saying that, there is no substitute for what’s inside your chest or between your ears. Just look at the marinovich kid.

I think Golden might have actually focused more on nutrition, just did not have the right philosophy (e.g. Chickillo). Under Shannon it was terrible, they would just hang out at Chartwells and eat all day.

Remember when the nutrition program under Randy was just rationing out Muscle Milk?

I remember being outside the stadium after Shannon's last game. USF had a catered meal w/chefs in white hats. The Canes got boxes from Church's chicken.
 
It's important to eat from the basic food groups as often as possible. For example, I try to get something from the Beef Jerky/Slim Jim basic food group daily. Same with the Nachos/Doritos/Tostito basic food group as often as possible, at least several times per week.

What you eat in the first 5 years of your life affect your growth and development the most versus any other point of your life.

Nothing wrong with it, it was just an observation. Countless times I would be there and the players would come in and just order a couple chops. A couple times I have heard them talking about needing to make a certain weight though and that they should order a couple extra for later.

This new Training Table facility was under Coach Golden. The big problem was when the players left the buidling and went home, this is where the extra food money has provided a huge benefit for the players along with the nutrientist to guide them in making smart grocery shopping choices.
 
Childhood diets are very poor in our country, socioeconomic situation notwithstanding. Most parents choose to feed their kids sugary breakfast cereals, pizza, and fast food burgers out of convenience than feed them a healthy diet of proteins and veggies. It's clear that kids with natural athletic genetic tendencies would obviously show more of an edge if fed properly but all American kids would benefit from anything other than the Standard American Diet,
