With the commitment of Miller, it's actually starting to look like this staff is stacking chips at the NT position.

2017 NT Jon Ford 6-5 300
2018 NT Jordan Miller 6-4 330
2019 NT Renato Brown 6-5 310 (as a JR in High School)

The one thing these guys all have in common is elite size. No more getting pushed around in the run game.

At 6-4 260 as a SO in High School, 2020 DT commit Tre'von Riggins, could be well over 300 by the time he gets on campus.

Do we really recruit “nt”? Or just interior linemen and figure it out. 1tech 3 tech blah blah blah

I actually do think we recruit the 1 tech vs. 3 tech. Seems pretty clear to me that Nesta has different attributes from Miller. Miller is the block eater whereas Nesta is the penetrator/bully.

You want diversity in your DTs. You’ll never have 2 guys that can do it all In terms of rushing the qb and stuffing the run.

Especially with the diverse offenses we face each year, having some big bodied DTs is always a good idea. We also seem to rotate at a high rate so depth is needed.

NT position here under Kool, is still about making plays and being disruptive. Completely different style of NT compared to Dorito

Idk Miller looks like he is as much of a penetrator as silvera. Looks just as quick and just as big.

You just "blah blah blah'd" a pretty crucial piece of fielding a winning football team, no?

If we only had guys like McIntosh and Bethel, we would get gashed even worse in the run game. If we only had guys like Norton or Ford, we wouldn't generate enough upfield pressure from the middle. You need a combination of guys able to handle separate responsibilities.

I personally think it works / should work the following way:

There are certain guys, like Nesta and Coburn and Thompson, that probably could do either and are takes regardless. If you can fill your class with 2-4 guys that caliber every year, the way Clemson and Ohio State do, then you don't have to worry about defined roles.

That said, we are likely a couple of years away from that, so once you get past the Tier A guys, you have to look for dudes that project well in a more defined role.

Carson and Chatman and Briggs are disruptors like McIntosh. Miller is a NT like Norton.

You can't be serious.

This is great, but we need more than 1 a year

The two positions require different skill sets and have different responsibilities.

That's like asking what's the difference between an X or Z receiver or a MLB vs a SLB.

nose tackle? did we switch to a 3-4 today?

The term NT does not equate to a 0tech or an automatic 30 front (by the way if you watch football, how often do you see a 43 or 34 implemented on the field? Maybe about 25% of the time). Defense immediately adjust to offense nowadays. Subbing players on and off the field or moving guys in and out of the box.

The term NT refers to the weakside defensive tackle. The NT in a 40 front typically takes on the blocks of the weakside or boundary guard and the offensive center, which leaves the Will free to do work, hence why Pinckney makes plays, his job is to simply make the play designed for him, since typically the design of a 40 front is to funnel the play to the Will.

Gotta learn the game before you say dumb things man.
