Note the last paragraph emphasizing the more immediate impact on private schools.

The field is hardly level for private schools under the NCAA, especially since they were and are favorite targets of Myles Brand and now Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch (USC, Miami). The NCAA takes its time with private schools not named Notre Dame or Duke.

Now we have this development...When the national championship is consistently a four team playoff between 'Bama, OSUck, U of Hogtown, and Oregon, the powers that be will blame each other for killing the golden goose.

Private school athletes would be able to join a union, possibly giving them benefits protected under law, but prohibited by the NCAA.

The whole thing is a cluster **** of epic levels and I love it.

They are and always will be the enemy, and only one way to beat them is win a NC and then shove it up their rectums.

Personally I think in the end it could hurt Miami depending on how things play out. I think this is just one event in a chain before the major schools split off from the NCAA and begin to pay their players. The problem then becomes how do we compete with the SEC type schools in buying our recruits? Obviously this is still years away, but its a real possibility imo.

Your projecting a similarity to society, rich get richer, have/have nots. Question will be, how strong is the ACC and its members.

Paying off kids parents and high school coaches is a cheap way to keep the big dollars. Collusion at the highest possible level. These are STATE FUNDED schools. Our tax dollars stealing from kids? It's a real crime and those involved should go to jail. Every university president, AD, Coach and all those that talk about it in private and profit from it. JAIL

At this point, Im of the opinion that a playoff of ANY KIND will destroy the fabric of college football. Given that, ANYTHING that destroys the NCAA is worthwhile in my book.

Serious question: since there has to be some governing body for athletics, what would you like to see in the new organization that would make it significantly different? Other than the obvious things like SEC favoritism, of course.

Cool, why not add another level of complexity. We all know that the more complex a system is the better it works, right? Right?

I dont typically engage in serious discussion during my work day, so please dont mind if I bullet point this answer.

If I were king, I would bring in private investors and create a minor league system for football that would take it out of the hands of universities. If a kid signs with a program, that program would have rights to their draft status, very similar to professional baseball. The MLB drafts high school kids all the time without regard to their SAT score.

This has already been done to a certain extent in the larger, public universities like penn state, ohio state, etc. State governments have either passed laws or are close to passing laws restricting what coaches can be paid directly from the state coffers. So these universities are creating private corporations to manage their sports programs which allows them to pay coaching staffs outside of state employee guidelines.

So my point, create a minor league system that models the old university system thus ensuring an existing fan base, culture, history, etc... Universities would get royalties and the NCAA would not be necessary. Ridding ourselves of the corruptness of governing body of the NCAA would be a huge side benefit. No one goes on probation, etc.
