The offensive line was suppose to be an strength, but in reality they were average at best and really awful against really good teams.
The best talent on the team is either in their sophmore or freshman season. If Golden can convince those classes to stick around until their senior seasons, then that's when the dominance starts. There are no first rounders on this team as of right now. Anybody leaving early, see Tommy Streeter, Marcus Fortson, etc.
Stephen Morris has a cannon of an arm, but reading defenses and throwing touch passes is something he is not good at right now. The offense went as he went. Stephen was inconsistent, that is why the offense was inconsistent.
D'onfrio has got to go. 3 years is more than plenty to get your ****e together. You have to adjust your game plan to the personnel. Any good coach know that. Unfortunately Golden will not release his best friend so......It would be awesome to get Butch Davis to replace him(dreaming!)
I'm not sold on the Coley as O.C. hire. There were a few games where the play calling was good, but for the most part it was bland and not creative at all. It was very easy to game plan for Miami after watching them for a few games this season.
With that said, all and all, this very average team OVER achieved. I for one didn't think they would go 9-3, but they did. I think Golden is a good coach and recruiter, but maybe to loyal to his friend as DC. I believe in continuity, but only when it is working. If Golden leaves for Penn State, we need to rehire Butch Davis.
Sadly, we will never be the dominate team we where in the 80's, 90's & 2000's, so if you were alive when it was happening, I hope you enjoyed it. Everybody in the country saw the blue print we were laying down and now everybody tries to duplicate it at all cost. Also, academic standards to get into UM is just killing us. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.
