Saw this in an Jackson article that showed up on Yahoo.

▪ I asked a UM person if the Canes have been at a disadvantage in the NIL game amid the business and legal issues facing UM benefactor John Ruiz.

The answer was a resounding no, that UM’s collective — whose cupboard is being stocked by UM donors who prefer to remain anonymous — has filled the void. The source said no coach has complained about losing a player because of any NIL shortcomings.

UM’s collective, Canes Connection, has raised millions via donors who prefer to operate behind the scenes. Most Canes football players — and some from other sports — have struck NIL deals with Canes Connection. At least once in recent months, Canes Connection stepped up when a player was secretly wooed by another school.

“We planned for this,” one UM official said of an era when other UM donors financed NIL deals without an overreliance on Ruiz, who has been contributing to Canes Connection. By all accounts, Ruiz has fulfilled all contractual terms with UM athletes who were promoting his businesses.

All of this is true.

And there is also more to NIL deals than just "dollar amount".

What Barry Jacks-off does NOT know is frightening.

This is ridiculous and predatory

his attorney should have read the contract before they put pen to paper or at least dexter should have hired someone to review the deal before signing. this is why you hire an attorney to review all deals before you execute it. seems like an easy catch for anyone reviewing the deal. i would bet he saw the up front money and didnt care about the other terms. now that his current atty or agent read that, theyre trying to figure a way out. this is how it works though. he signed a **** deal with a marketing company or whoever it was.

Come on, man. 17 or 18 year old kid. In theory, everything you say is correct, but you know what is actually going on here with NIL.

Not to mention, a lot of these families may have never hired an attorney previously. They don't know who to trust or hire. I think that is an even bigger issue, is that you and I have enough friends in life that we COULD recommend someone, but how do these families know that the ATTORNEY who helps them out might not be just as big of an opportunist as the "advance funding" company.

Who recommends the attorney? Is the attorney a Gaytor? We already saw a situation where Eddie Rojas (former UiF baseball player) who owned a fairly reputable investment firm in Orlando, turned out to be a disastrous choice to run the original Gaytor Collective.

Again, everything you say makes sense. Doesn't mean the outcome will be solid, though.

Totally agree. How does the football program and school not deter that type of transaction.

It’s not even NIL, it’s a loan shark

If he signed it with no attorney, then quite frankly, he's just gonna have to try to settle. He'll be ******** himself if he tries to litigate it for too long.

I agree that the outcome sucks, but unfortunately, unless there is something in that contract that would render it unenforceable, he may be out of luck. well see though. I am sure he isnt the only one dealing with this. im sure our own athletes probably have signed something with some company and not fully reading the details. its a shady world with these NIL companies out there trying to sign athletes.

Agreed. The concept of hiring an attorney yet alone how to hire an attorney is most likely a completely foreign concept to at least 90% of these college athletes. A lot of people need guidance on who to hire and why.

It's sad that a lot of people would likely sign the deal without thinking because the concept of being paying 15% pre-tax income on future earnings does not sound like a lot. Financial education is extremely poor throughout this country.

I know I'm going to be in in the minority here, but these kids are gonna **** around and find out with this stuff. If you want to be paid like a grown man, you better handle your financial affairs and agreements like a grown man. Can’t cry about not getting paid and then do business like an idiot when it’s time 🤷🏻‍♂️

**** his people let him agree to give 15 percent of his PRE-TAX NFL earnings?!!!
Got **** someone did this boy dirty!!!!!
I read the number, and almost fainted. Surefire way to walk away with only a tiny fraction of what your career earnings will be.

Well of his dad wasnt to busy trying to be a 3technique for the gators this wouldnt happen.

BUt that agency has been fleecing baseball players for awhile and now has pivoted to other sports. I dont know how he would get out of this, he chased big money because it was a whole article about them with Tatis and how they fleeced him last year that i saw.
