Nigel Bethel, Jr. to visit Miami January 26th weekend

Would Saban accept a commitment from this guy? Could he sign up with Georgia if he wanted? Nah... those guys just come down here and grab Josh Jobe and Nadab Joseph and leave the Bethels to us.

Bottom line - I don't trust Banda and Rumph to find "under the radar guys." Say if Coach Kool wants to sign a 3-star kid, that's different. He's PROVEN that he can scout talent better than anyone in the country, so he's got my trust that the dude he signs is going to be pretty good. But Banda?

And don't think Bethel is flying under the radar either.

EVERY SCOUT FROM EVERY SCHOOL IN AMERICA has had a chance to look at Nigel Bethel. He plays at Northwestern, the most heavily recruited/scouted/watched high school in the country. College coaches crawling all over that school.

I think it's a huge red flag that nobody else wants this kid.

If he had another star next to his name by the recruiting services y'all would be wetting yourselves watching his tape and athleticism.

You do realize Georgia took Wildgoose whom is shorter and no where near as fast as Bethel right? He doesn't have the upside Bethel has and is another 3* recruit.

I don't know, he looked like he has pretty good potential to me at DB. Pretty good tackling, wraps up good. He's very skinny but has decent speed.

I mean Jobe's cb (safety all the way IMO) highlights don't look better than this kids so why the hate, because the offers (lack), size or because he was a Gator? Because Radio wanted him? ;)

I just want to understand all the sourness. Of course we want 4/5 stars but I mean the kid does have potential.

You've seen what Rumph and Banda have done with the current group of DBs, right? Until they prove otherwise I'm going to give them free reign to recruit who they want.

But he doesn't, and there's a reason he doesn't have that star or the high-end offers from other top programs.

People don't like hearing this, but if Miami wants to be elite (playoffs, nattys, etc) then we need to recruit like it. If you expect to go toe-to-toe with Clemson and Alabama, you can't whiff on guys like Surtain, Campbell, Jobe, and Samuel, and then think you have the luxury to turn away guys like Bookie and Grimes.

You're just not going to win a natty settling for guys like Bethel. He's decent but not elite. We need elite.

We're sitting "pretty good" right now with 14 four/five star kids signed. But nobody here wants to be "pretty good."

This part will get me some hate but really - If you want to be among the best, if you want to be a champion, that number has to end up in the 17-20 range by February.

And then we have to do it all over again in 2019.

We're good right now, but not good enough. We need a few more studs to push this class over the brink.

What are the chances we recruit two Nigel Bethels in a five span that aren’t related.

And yet Clemson runs this guy out there and he is probably their best corner

One of Alabama's staring corners was a walkon https://247sports.com/Player/Levi-Wallace-79873

Both had less acclaim in high school than Bethel. If he becomes a part of this class then we have to hope his evaluation by the coaches is an accurate one.

You don't build classes with Bethels. He would be the exception not the norm in this class. An exception that the coaches offered quite a bit ago.

Who said I want to whiff on Campbell or Surtain?

Get the blue Chip kids and also some athletes with huge potential just like Bethel.

Also you apparently don't know much about the history of Miami recruiting. The U never beat the supposed big time programs nationally in recruiting rankings. 5 championships we're won based on lower rated kids from south Florida that were great athletes.

And you didn't respond to my point either. Georgia did take a 3* DB in this cycle. How is taking Bethel any different?

I'll tell ya what's different..... Bethel is a far superior athlete to the 3* kid Georgia took.

If he had another * UF would not have dropped him and you can bet Alabama and Georgia would have been all over him.

Bethel is nothing special and isn’t anything that doesn’t come through South Florida EVERY year . Pass

You have constantly about Campbell, closing speed, size, etc....

Bethel is about an inch shorter and only a tenth of a second slower than Campbell in the 100m.

They are nearly the same athlete. Rumph switched Campbell to CB just like he wants to do with Bethel and you wanna pass.

If it was up to you, Rumph would have never switched Campbell to CB. You would pass.....

Did they see Bethel play CB in a camp?

Our did and they offered.

This is exactly the advantage our coaches have over these other teams.

As a 6th or 7th DB in a class, I'd definitely take a 6-1 raw athlete that runs a 10.6 100m as a project with huge upside. Like I said several times. These are exactly the type athletes that have beaten the big dogs in CFB for 5 titles. Y'all don't know your own history.

Tyson Campbell ran a 10.41 in the 100m while bethel ran a 10.78 100m how is that only a tenth of a second difference?.... bethel is no where the athlete or player Campbell is. You don’t often see corners his size that are that fast that well period. Not to mention his excellent tackling and coverage ability. He’s the best db in the country

Going to the plan C guy is bad for optics. We are losing momentum fast.

Oh I know our history, but I also know that it's not 1995 anymore. The recruiting game has changed. Scouting has gotten better, and the internet has meant that these kids don't go undiscovered anymore. Nick Saban has won 5 national championships by out-recruiting everyone else. He doesn't take projects and reaches... he fills his classes with sure things. In fact, every national champion since the BCS era has been loaded with 4/5 star recruits.

When I say we need to hit that 17-20 number, that's based on looking at what previous champions have done... it's not just a number I'm pulling out of my ***. We're so close we can taste it with this class... just gotta finish strong.

Very few kids fly under the radar anymore. Everybody knows who the best kids in South Florida are. That's the modern reality.

The fact is that if we want to be elite, we have to step up and go toe-to-toe with Alabama, Clemson, etc and WIN recruiting battles for the guys that everyone wants.

Also, I'm not saying Rashad Wildgoose is better than Bethel. But Georgia already has 18 kids signed who are 4/5 stars. That's national championship level recruiting. They can afford to take a flier on Wildgoose.

If we can get 4 more all americans signed, then I wouldn't care if we take Bethel on a flier as well. But you can't BANK YOUR FUTURE on guys like Bethel.

Look man, even DJ Ivey is a little bit of a wild card. We need some sure studs at that CB position. Especially given how loaded it is this year in South Florida - there's just so much low hanging fruit. You just can't let guys like Surtain, Campbell, Jobe, and Samuel walk out of here and then think you're just going to replace them.

Bethel has run a 10.6 100m sir. So yes he is about a tenth or so off Campbell. They both fly.

Coverage ability and talking have been taught and coached properly to Campbell for the last several years. The guy that did the coaching is the one that wants to do the same with Bethel.

If we take Bethel, he'd be the best 1-2 athletes at CB on the team.

You'd pass all that potential as a 6th or 7th DB?

If we close the deal with Campbell, Bethel would be the 2nd or 3rd best athlete at CB.

Point is this is a major upgrade in athleticism at CB. Exactly what we need.

Need to land Campbell at minimum. I don’t think Bethel is Miami caliber. I’d save the spot.
