Next year what changes can be made?

I know it’s been said multiple times but this year was eerily similar to 2017 in which we play ND, SMU, UF with Lagway and Cuse next year.

No idea how the portal can completely change the defense in one year like getting a generational qb on offense can. A new DC brings a new scheme most likely which might take time and his players to run the scheme unless the DC runs a similar philosophy to Guidry.

does anyone actually see a Miami team that out schemes anyone, plays smarter than anyone, punches above their pay grade, wins all the games they should, or improves as the season goes on? I don’t care who you bring in under Mario, there’s no track record of any of that all the sudden being the opposite.

no but if the defense had a pulse we prob beat GT Tech and Cuse.

beg Rivers to come back

Best possible portal QB
Find a C
beg Horton to come back (sell him as #1)
A #2 quality WR at minimum (a #1 WR if we have the money but see below)

heavily spend on defense (even if this means sacrificing money for a WR)

beg Damari to stay (I don’t know if he’s great but we can’t lose another DB)
Best possible safety in the portal (banking on Patterson holding down the other spot)
AT LEAST 2 CBs, one being at minimum a #2 quality boundary CB
Two DTs, one DE (off the top of my head) maybe more…. But the whales last class need to be heavy rotation players at minimum

We can take a step back on offense if the defense takes a leap forward. We had the best offense arguably in the country. That’s tough to replicate to begin with and not needed for a championship.

I do want Horton back, don’t get me wrong. He showed up big in key moments against Cal and VT.

But his production the last three games indicates he’s not ready to be a go-to guy. He’s better off as a very good WR2. He can be a better version of Jacolby George.

We need an alpha on the outside. A Tre Harris, Tetaroia McMillan, Nick Nash type guy in the portal. Throw a bag.

Lastly, I would beg Martinez to come back. He’s a 1200 yard RB if we actually handed him the ball often and let him run outside. Criminal to get out-carried by Fletcher yesterday, and I won’t blame Martinez if he re-enters the portal.

I agree with you. I’m saying sell #1 to keep him. If the money is well spent on defense I would be OK with another really good #2 WR from the portal with Trader and Carr next year. If we have money to drop a bag on a #1 great. Just trying to be realistic $ wise.

We’re going to be a different team next year. Relying more on the run and ball control, which will make the defense appear better.

I’m leaning towards riding with Emory and spending majority of NIL on defense and WR.

Why didn’t any of the WR besides Horton get burn for development?

We really need better LB and corner play where our pass rush isn’t neutralized with quick passes and counter run game.
 
Starts with Guidry. He's gotta go. No way our defensive talent should have given up that many points each game and continuously made the same mistakes week over week. What a difference 12 months made for Guidry. Goat to Scapegoat

Mario significantly upgraded our offense overnight in the portal last year. He can sell the Cam story to another portal QB this year. If it's a bunch of DJU's in the portal, then we ride with Emory

I wouldn’t be surprised if Martinez declares for the draft. A running back’s shelf life is limited and there’s no reason for him to play anymore college football.

If I had to guess probably because the defense was so putrid we really didn’t have much garbage PT to give. We had to be prepared to score every drive.
