These next 3 games will set the tone for the rest of the season and give us a huge advantage over other teams in the ACC.

As you know it takes most teams at least 4 games before they hit their stride and are firing on all cylinders. Unlike every other ACC team Miami does not face a ACC opponent until October 5th when we face GT at home. This is an advantage because the costal race will already start working itself out before we even begin ACC play. We could very easily be facing teams that already have L's against other ACC teams before we play them.

I look at these early games like preseason games. We can build depth against these weaker opponents and build confidence against a top 10 team. If all goes well we could go into GT game 4-0 and ranked in the top 25.

Closer look at the next 3 games

Week 2: Home against #10 University of Florida
Florida returning starters Offense:6 Defense:4

  • Winning this game will give Miami a signature win
  • This game will also build confidence
  • They only return 4 starters on defense and they have a new defensive staff. When you have that many new faces and a new staff a lot of mistakes will be made early in the season
  • With so many injuries along UF's offensive line and Matt Jones seeing his first action in months, that UF running game will suffer.
  • A few early 3 and out will give the defense some confidence and allow the offense to get a early lead.

Week 3: Home against Savannah ST.
Savannah ST. returning starters Offense:6 Defense:6

  • We should easily have this game in hand by the half.
  • This game will allow this staff to play a lot of guys and build depth.
  • That early experience will pay off big time later in the season when injuries set in
  • The team can also use this game to work out any additional kinks and develop a better rhythm both on offense and defense.
  • Because this is such a weak opponent we don't have to fear a huge let down after beating UF.

Week 4: Away against USF
USF returning starters Offense:6 Defense:7

  • Another tune up game.
  • This game, like Savannah St and FAU, will allow this staff to play a lot of guys and build depth.
  • With this game being 2 games after the UF victory they team will have time to adjust to all of the hype and media attention.

Savannah and USF will be glorified scrimmages.

Let's hope so. Because the team needs it big time, if Friday was any indication.

BTW, I heard the Taggert bus is completely empty. Just him driving a bus with NOBODY on board, LOL!
