New NCAA Grading Requirements

In 2016 there is a new NCAA Guideline being dropped which will even out the playing field a lot for us IMO. For example you will need a 2.3 GPA to be eligible to play anywhere including West Virginia, Louisville, Marshall Etc. If you have a 2.3 GPA you need a 1080 on the SAT's (two part score) to be eligible to play. You can practice and receive financial aide with a 2.0 or higher but you cannot play your first year on campus only practice until your grades are in order. Lastly, the GPA is based on core requirements no an overall GPA.

If anyone has any questions about it let me know and I will try to explain it alittle better. But overall I see this as a good thing because it will 1. hopefully hit home with some of the SFL talent that likes to mess around in the classroom and 2. not allow the schools I mentioned above to get all the talent with poor grades.

Question..2.3 GPA and 1080 minimum to get admitted?
a. Do you have to maintain this to keep your playing eligibility?
b. You can get admitted with a 2.0 GPA, but you can't play? Also, what is the SAT score for this? It seems if its lower, it's kinda what Marshall is doing currently (same kinda program).

I have a feeling this won't really change much.

It'll just lead to more players getting their grades fudged.

You can still get admitted based on the school requirements but you have to receive the 2.3 min with a 1080 SAT to be eligible to play. You can still receive scholarship and practice but cannot play your first year according to the rules. They havent released yet what you need to do to become eligible if that is the case.

Very similar to the route Grooms took where he was admitted into the school but couldnt play because of his grade situation. So I guess you can say that exact situation will happen more often, but if I'm a recruit based on the new rules I would go prep/juco so that I was fully qualified and could play right away.

Great info & post but not much will change

Id rather build my program like stanford and just beconsistent winners and not sell our souls like we did in past with some of the thigs we admitted

Let Marshall and WVU keep getting the SoFla thugs. In the end those schools never win big jus flashes here and there

Raising the GPA requirement is almost like doing nothing at all. It's just too easy to get high school teachers to give whatever grade is required to get Johnny Athlete a scholarship. They have been doing it forever. Now, they'll just have to give a little more. As much as standardized testing is attacked, it is much better, IMO. You can't fake the SAT or ACT.

BTW, the increased standards don't apply to HBCUs. Too funny. Can't make **** like that up.
