I've been saving this one for when I had some time. For me this is where 90% of the frustration with Golden comes from. 10% is from the way we ended this season but the other 90% is from what has happened in the past and it is carrying over to this season.
We have spent the last 10+ season getting to the hump and then falling back down. It is why I personally am considering not getting my season tickets for the first time in 15 years. I fly to every home game from Tennessee and make most of the away games. And I cannot continue to drag my family around the country for $$$$ to see us fall flat on our face. The bowl game might have been the last straw for me. But it is without a doubt Paul Dee, Coker, Shannon, and Goldens fault but less Golden than any of the others.
Below is a list of games where we have had an opportunity to make something of our season and have just been an utter disappointment. Now I'm not talking win a game like Florida, thats huge yes but it does nothing about making our season. That is about championships.
04 VT 10-16 would have won the first ACC title
05 GT 10-14 would have won the acc and a possible NC berth
05 LSU 3-40 Bowl Game
07 BC 14-28 would have gone to a bowl game
08 GT 23-41 would have won the division
08 CAL 17-24 Bowl Game
09 UNC 24-33 would have tied for division possibly won it
09 Wisc 14-24 could have won 10 games and Bowl Game
10 UVA 19-24 Most likely cost us the division
10 VT 17-31 Cost us the division
10 ND 17-31 Bowl Game
11 BC 17-24 Probation so this was the bowl game
12 UVA 40-41 would have won the division outright (and I believe not taken a bowl ban)
13 VT 24-42 would have won the division
13 Duke 30-48 would have won the division
13 UL 9-36 Bowl game and 10 wins
I looked back through the schedules and at best we have won 2 important games since 04 and that's stretching it. That puts us at 2-16 in games that are season defining. I might throw up.
Win the division in 2014 or move along. That is my slogan for next season.
And just FYI, I only missed 4 of the above 16 games and that is why I am tired of being let down.
