Seems like D-Day is near and the NCAA announcement can come at anytime and it's possible the University has received notice. It will be dependent on the fans to press the University of Miami to pursue remedies to unfair penalties, Mark Emmert has shown that his word cannot be trusted. I suspect the penalties will be harsher than most fans expect.

Donna Shalala has paved the way for the commissioners of the 5 big conferences to demand changes to the NCAA's operating procedures and rules and she has the ability to see that Congress steps into this matter as well. There is no person better qualified than her to lead a commission to reform the NCAA's archaic and unfair practices. You have a white person Mark Emmert making over $1.5 million plus God knows what in expense accounts telling young, growing men who are working out hours a day that they can't accept a bagel with cream cheese let alone a steak from a friend. I say that's nonsense and hypocritical.

Someone has to see that Jim Isch, the NCAA's second highest ranking official and it's former interim President is held accountable for approving the Elena Perez - Nevin Shapiro fiasco in which a Federal Bankruptcy Court was lied to. Jim Isch is Mark Emmert's long time friend and co-worker and he should have been fired immediately instead they hung the noose around Julie Roe Lach's neck.

I also firmly believe, as other lawsuits have alleged, that the NCAA is a monopoly and they have violated anti-trust laws. Additionally, that the NCAA's Clearing House (Eligibility Center) has discriminated against minority students particularly African Americans and that they have no authority to establish standards to play sports beyond those that the various states require for a student to graduate.

Lets not drag race into this. The NCAA's founding was to protect the amateur status of college sports and not make hundreds of millions of dollars selling apparel and turning enforcement into a corrupt police state. If there has been any back and forth between the COI and the U attorneys and Shalala since their meeting 2 months ago it will not be revealed. There is alot at stake for both parties. If the NCAA goes very hard here they might find themselves bankrupt when they get dumped by the big conferences when they split off.

Why not drag race into it if it's true? The fact is that most major Division I players are Afro-Americans and a significant number of them come from deprived socio-economic backgrounds. Than you have a white guy like Mark Emmert who makes over $1.5 million plus expense accounts etc. telling a growing young black athlete that he's committing a crime if he accepts a steak from a friend while every other student in the university can. It makes no sense, these players are not amateurs they are low priced professionals if you put any real value on their college scholarships. I assume the university's believe their scholarships have value.

I'm not playing the race card in this one. White kids get ****ed just the same by the NCAA Rules. Johny Manziel is a good example, not that anybody has any pity for him. But I get how a kid generating millions in Ad revenue can get ****ed not seeing a penny of it.

I mean even those boyband contracts back in the day, which is pretty much pimpin 101, payed the dudes something. The top revenue generating athletes are getting boned, sure, but for 99.9 percent of NCAA student athletes they are getting a good deal. Its hard to say whats right because once the pocket books get involved in recruiting in a legal fashion, its gonna be the end of level playing fields. The Alabama's, Texas, Notre Dame, Ohio States, Michigans of the world will reign supreme by a long shot and it will be impossible to compete for everyone else.

Negged!!! I'm sorry but how in the world do you feel this is directed at blacks by the white evil empire? By the way they're not crimes... They're NCAA bylaw violations. Big difference. You need to check yourself man! Offensive as ****

Candy it is really scary that you feel scholarship black athletes get screwed that they cant get a free meal but white students can. The students would gladly be on scholarship and not get a free meal. Fyi, athletes meals are free at the school through their scholarships. Your thinking is messed up

No I am thinking its pretty normal....sad but normal

It's pretty ridiculous that at UM or any other college any student can accept a free meal or a car ride in a thunderstorm unless you're an athlete. That's ridiculous and absurd!

By the way most students get some scholarship aid.

As for the Eligibilty Center if an athlete legitimately graduates a state approved high school and receives an acceptable SAT score to be admitted to a university the NCAA should not be allowed to impose additional standards. Those additional standards tend to hurt students from lower socio- economic groups such as Afro-Americans.

The NCAA clearinghouse prevents the Oklahoma's, Alabama's and F$U's of college athletics from accepting students below minimum GPA and ensures that the classes are core requirement classes and not 8 hours of PE or drivers ed.

Way off based my man! Bylaws are not laws. Nothing illegal about them even if they are full of 'ish!

College football has been big money for a long, long time. The race issue makes no sense. Many years ago, it was mostly white players and they never got paid either. The difference is that nobody complained about it. You could make the arguement that crying about it now that most players are non-white is racist. Why is it wrong now--is it because the players are not just poor country rednecks? There are sound arguements about the unfairness of the system, but raising it as a race issue is not one of them. All them big dumb white bubby's got screwed just as bad, unless of course you think only non-whites should get paid. We might have a lot of race issues in this country still, but thousands of African Americans getting free college tuition and chance for very high paying professional careers they were previously denied just doesn't sound like one of them.

You know the Jim Isch issue is huge, he's Mark Emmert's right hand man and long time friend; he personally signed off on the Perez Shapiro bankruptcy court deception plan. The guy should have been fired.
