Al Golden is not going to fire Mark D end of story. I don't think the university is in position to fire Golden due to his buyout. So realistically he'll have at least another 2 seasons.

So only a few outcomes are possible here moving forward.

1) Golden has a change in philosophy and the defense shows real improvements and keeps his job. Not inflated stats from beating down FAU and SSU.

2) Golden does not change his philosophy, team performs well enough to buy a little more time by catching a few breaks and making the ACC champ game.

3) Offense carries this team and we basically become an Oklahoma State type program under Golden.

4) Defense is terrible and Al is told to can his friend and he does.

5) Defense is Terrible Al is told to can his friend he refuses and is fired.

**If the recruiting stays at the current elite level. This team will be loaded with enough talent to make a real run under a competent coach with quality assistants.

IMO with or without Golden we are 2-3 years away from being "back". It's not to say that we can't feast on a weak sch and be 10-1, 11-0 because we should have been this year. But it would take the game of our coaches lives to win in a playoff against teams like bama,OU,FSU,Ore,OSU who will be there in the next few years. and have a talent and coaching advantage over us.

Feels like we're saying this year-in year-out. Reality is starting to sink in, this **** ain't gonna happen anytime soon.

My perspective:

Golden can recruit well, and shows hints of being able to develop talent, but he is a real liability when it comes to actual coaching.
Not upset he's returning for another season or two, to continue stockpiling our roster with actual talent, but very worried about his contract and the buy-out terms. Do not want to be saddled with him until 2020.

PS - Would have been fine, if not even happier, had he left, as long as someone with more upside was brought in.

once we have the horses up front, no one is going to be btiching about the scheme..

I disagree. I think we'll improve plenty, but until we get our X's and O's in order, I think we'll hit a ceiling as an annual 2-loss team.

For the record, that was Butch Davis too, until he got a few difference makers on the team that put him over the top.

Im not saying AG is Butch, or will ever be Butch, but he wasnt a great gameday coach either, and was stuck as an 8-3/9-2 type coach until Dorsey finally broke through as a consistent QB that finally gave us the piece we needed to get over the hump.

Golden will never ever ever ever ever fire DnOfrio.

Golden convinced Dnofrio NOT to take the Temple HC job and to come down to Miami. Al is directly responsible for keeping Dnofrio employed. If Al is a head coach anywhere, Dnofrio will be on his staff as DC.......PERIOD.

So all we need is a QB, and suddenly his last in the ACC defense will improve? C'mon dude. You used to be a pretty well-reasoned poster; now you're writing like a porster, excusing mediocrity with 10,000 word screeds.

same can be said for Jimbo Fisher.
