I always thought of Golden as a CEO type (recruit, motivate, hire) more so than a X's and O's guy. The troubling thing for me is his staff is pretty mediocre. How many good to great assistants do you see on this staff? He made some very good offensive hires when he got here but those guys left last year and we downgraded big time. Defensively our assistants are just terrible. Some of these guys bring no value at all, can't coach or recruit.

Jimbo is nothing special as a coach but he's having great success at FSU because he's hit home runs with pretty much every single one of his hiring decisions (including S&C coach).

Golden's defensive scheme is mediocre at best. His DC makes no adjustments. His OC runs the same plays.

It's a collaborative cluster****.

Why are we not running a 3-4. We have plenty of guys that are too slow and big to play end in a 4-3 scheme and not big enough to play tackle. Put them at end in a 3-4. At least this would get McCord on the field more too. What we have now is a hodge podge of guys, half of which shouldn't be on the field, hoping someone makes a play. The offense is just as bad, always running to the outside. Everytime we get a big run, we hurry up to the line and run it up the middle, with the same back that just ran it the previous play. Gassed, he only gets a yard at best. What good is the hurry-up offense, if we get to the line, check the sideline for the play, change it three times, and snap it with less than 5 seconds left on the play clock? Don't blame the weather. Don't blame the talent. We are constantly getting outcoached by teams with inferior talent. We need top notch coordinators, preferably a true pro-style guy on a offense, and at minimum someone that at least knows the basics on defense.
