GAINESVILLE (Jan. 5) - Senior running back
Randy "Duke" Johnson of Miami Norland has been selected as the Florida Dairy Farmers 2011 Mr. Football following a final round of voting by a statewide panel of high school coaches and media representatives.

Johnson, the Class 5A Player of the Year, led the unbeaten Vikings (15-0) to the state title, rushing 208 times for 2,087 yards and 29 touchdowns. He finished his career with 5,069 yards rushing and 52 TDs, becoming just the third Dade County high school player to top the 5,000-yard career plateau, joining Bobby Washington (Miami Killian) and Frank Gore (Coral Gables).
Johnson, who finished with 184 points, was at his best on the biggest stages. He rushed for 260 yards and four TDs in a 29-13 win over No. 1-ranked Glades Central in the regional final, then set a Dade County playoff record with 375 yards rushing and three TDs in a come-from-behind, 35-27 semifinal win over Palmetto. In his final prep game, Johnson earned MVP honors after recording 266 all-purpose yards and scoring five TDs in a 38-0 win over Crawfordville Wakulla for the state championship.
Junior running back
Kelvin Taylor of Glades Day, the Class 2A Player-of-the-Year who set career state marks for yardage (8,975) and touchdowns (141) this past season, was runner-up to Johnson with 120 points, while junior quarterback
Cord Sandberg, the Class 7A Player-of-the-Year who led Bradenton Manatee to the 2011 state title, was third (109).
Rounding out the eight individual class winners who were finalists were junior running back
Derrick Henry of Yulee (4A, 91), St. John's Bartram Trail senior quarterback
Nathan Peterman (6A, 88), Tampa Berkeley Prep senior running back
Nelson Agholor (3A, 82), Orlando Dr. Phillips senior quarterback
Nick Patti (8A, 51) and senior running back Theryl Brown of Wewahitchka (1A, 44).
The Florida Dairy Farmers Sports Awards program exemplifies Florida Dairy Farmers' commitment to the state's youth. The 2011-12 academic year represents the 20th anniversary of these unique awards, and we will be honoring the state's top athletes and coaches in an all-time high 30 FHSAA sanctioned and recognized sports. The program also emphasizes to young people the importance of keeping dairy products a primary part of their diet in their overall nutrition plan.
