South Florida was well represented in Orlando this year for the state finals and perennial powerhouse St. Thomas Aquinas did their job by defeating Tallahassee Lincoln 41-25.
The defensive line is one of the main reasons for the Raiders’ return to dominance and 2014 DE Anthony Moten (6'4", 270) was a big contributor all season long.
“It feels really good. It’s my second one since I won it as a freshman, but it feels different this time because I was actually on the field and was a big part of the team. I was just on the sideline cheering as a freshman.”
What’s the outlook of next year’s team looking like?
“We’re losing a lot of seniors on offense with John O’Korn and Fred Coppet, but we’re just going to need people to step up like Madre London and Corey Holmes.”
Moten holds early offers from a number of big-time programs already.
“I’ve been talking to Alabama a little bit, UM of course, Ohio State, UCF, Wake Forest, Clemson, Rutgers, and South Carolina.”
While the decision will ultimately be his, Moten admits that his family would prefer for him to choose one school in particular.
“My family loves Miami because it’s right here in the backyard. They would love to go to all of my games. They wanted me to see where I wanna go though, and I said ‘of course, I’d love to go there,’ but I also want to keep my options open.”
The talented lineman says he doesn’t want to rush into a decision.
“I’ll wait a while. It will probably be during the season and I’ll play it up for a big game or something.”
There are a couple of things he plans on improving on in the offseason. He will be training with teammate and Ohio State commit, Joey Bosa.
“I want to improve my speed. I ran a 4.92 at the Miami camp. I also want to work on using my hands better. Bosa told me I’ll be #1 in the nation after working with him in the offseason.”
