Had to ask cause just saw highlights...is he telegraphing the heck out of his throws? I fear in some throws if the lb or corner were faster it's a pick six thing.
Thoughts?

To me it looked like he was definitely staring down the receivers.

i saw the same. but i give him a break since he was injured some during the off season... but if it starts to become a habit he's gonna start getting burned for pick 6s when we start playing upper echelon teams

Agreed , I'm sure they will be working on that lets see what happens against KSU
If he can beak that trend then he will have a great season. If he can't then He will needs to stay within himself safe short passes, throw ball away , even take a sack vs throw a pick. This with occasional longer passes to wide open receiver or just to stretch the field and we can still win with Steven.

He did lock on to receivers a few times, but for the most part read the field well and make VERY accurate throws. He has an elite arm, and looks to have the accuracy up from last year. He definitely needs more help from the receivers, though.

I noticed this too -- and it has been a problem for him in the past. It may be a function of the play calling (quick hitches, slants, and screens), however, and the fact that BC was playing its corners way off the LOS. We'll have to wait until he tries to throw down field to see if he is going through progressions and able to find second and third receivers to see if he has improved in this area.

I too think he could have looked off the safety better, but most of his throws were determined prior to the snap of the ball. It will be innteresting if KSU tries to man up, or even press us this week. That will force him to make more progressions. He has an elite arm though. I though he played very good. I think he gives our rcievers a chance to make plays because they get the ball in time to make a move. I am excited to see the next round of offense next week!

Who looks off the saftey on 3 step drops and quick passes. He threw 30 or so quick passes. Step. Throw. No progression to go through. All pre-snap reads. The other throws he seemed to go through his progressions just fine. Found his check downs, came off a few routes.

He looked fine to me.

Major reach. There were a few cases where he locked onto his receiver a little more than I'd like to see, but it was a big improvement over what we saw in his freshman season, and even over the Maryland game last year (a game in which he took way too much heat over a solid performance). Seemed to me like he was making it a point to look off his receivers even on some of the short passes and as you mentioned, was going through his progressions pretty well.

More importantly, as it's been pointed out, you can only do so much with the short passing playbook we brought to Saturday's game. Not going to get worried until I see him locking on on the intermediate/deep stuff.

When you are throwing passes that are three step drops and hitch steps, there is no such thing as progressions and reads.

I no issue on the 3 step drops but I did notice him locking in on the intermediate routes. He gets away with it because of his arm stength and accuracy against BC.

We scored 34 points on a halfway decent defense. Dont think our worry should be on the offensive side of the ball.

Exactly, on stuff like bubble screens there is no reading, just get it out of there

Also, on three step drops, you don't have time to read or look people off or you get hit in the face
