More Misses Than Hits In New Coaches’ First Recruiting Class

Thanks for sharing Peruche. I'm a bit surprised to see that Mullen is leagues ahead of Willie in the recruiting game. Coming in I thought it would be the exact opposite, but man.... has Taggart struggled to close, even on lay-ups like Jalen Hall (3 star declining FSU to go to OREGON??)

With that being said, as is evident by our top 5 class, Richt's team is squarely in the driver's seat in the state of Florida. So much to be thankful for in this program right now. Would be foolish not to enjoy it.

What Richt has done in such a short time is beyond impressive. I didn't even think it was possible. Turmoil at both instate programs helped but he locks up his class early, cherry picks a few studs to focus on and gets a jump on the next class. Impressive stuff.

But the part I find so interesting is the Willie/Mullen debate. I too believed that we should have feared Willie much more than Mullen on the trail. But it has been quite the opposite. i think it's a combination of Mullen having experience recruiting against the big boys, sustained success at Miss state and because he coached at Florida a "coming home" feel similar to what Richt has here.

Willie on the other hand looks overwhelmed. His offers are all over the place, his tweets/edits are embarrassing, kids don't trust him and his resume lands him a tick above Al golden in the accomplishment rankings. He's lucky FSU has talent on the roster already.

Totally agree with this.

Mullen was on more comfortable ground and came back with SEC HC experience. While doing better than Willie, who was given a car to drive without a license, Mullen is still sucking. Willie has the appearance of a deer in the headlights, kind of cross between Randy and Golden. All good news for us.

Agree with all of this. Richt is a truly elite recruiter.

Maybe there's something to the long reach of a spurned Dark Knike......

Taggart will be FSU’s Al Golden. They will hit bottom in 2020, and will pony up the money to fire/payout Willie and move on. With any luck a 50+ win by Miami over FSU will be the deciding factor. We still need payback from losing 47-0 in 1997.
