MOAR OLINEMEN!!!

I'd like to see Miami land a couple 5 star linemen for a change. Probably not happening this year, but soon...

OLine is the weakest position on the team. Against good teams we are almost forced to pass on 3rd and short. This will always be a position of need in recruiting.

Yeah, not sure it is still weakest, but we do need continued improvement.

We need an infusion of talent on the OL.

Donaldson, Gaynor, Herbert, Hillery, Scaife, Campbell, and Reed is an infusion of talent.

I think this is spot on, granted I still think we could use more. I don’t know as much about Hillery or Campbell, but I know we need more Meaty athletes up front. I’d personally like upwards of 12 guys on OL that could play, couple projects with some true Grit, the more we get the further we will go!

I'd like to start seeing 5th year seniors on the line in a few years.

Agreed and what will help with that is making sure we pick up 4-5 OL each cycle. I don’t recall who posted it but we can’t just have the same type to come in, they’ve been soft we need legitimate OTs not OGs that are “flexible” with Kehoe as much as I loved the man he never had any OTs he had Guards who just happened to play on the bookends. A-T-H-L-E-T-E-S!!

Offensive linemen is a really hard position to recruit. I say that because you never know how a guy you bring in- whether 2 or 5 star, will perform. These kids also continue to grow from 18-22. You want weight, but not bad weight. You want strength, but also mobility. You need to be fairly smart. Kids like this don’t just grow on trees. S. Fla also is not know for having oodles of these guys.

True, but we should have coaches up north selling kids on Miami in the dead of winter every year. I get that S. Fl is mostly a skill position area, but selling northern kids on Fl should not be hard. Especially not the city of Coral Gables.

Coach had pretty talented OL at Georgia ----- we will be fine ----- over time ------ sorry but you wont go from what we put on the field this year to studs next year

RBs will be much more fresh next year ........ get a QB that can complete 60% of his throws and complete the deep ball and the holes will open up quickly

Don't know about Campbell and Reed. Well, Reed I think will eventually contribute ... will he be a star? I have my doubts. But I haven't seen anything from Campbell. Nothing. I'd be surprised if he makes the two deep at any point in his Miami career, just being honest. If he does, Searles is a much better coach than I think he is.

As for Scaife? IMO he is going to be an All-ACC Guard at least. Hillary IMO will be a 2-3 year starter here. Herbert, IMO will be the starting LT in 2018 and will not dissapoint. Gaynor Will be a starting OG next year and be a stud before he is done.

Not sure if it was the chicken or the egg. Were McDermott and Darling overrated (likely to some degree), was it the poor development early in their careers (this had to play a role) or was it that the coaching/scheme the last 2 years was not properly taught? The inability to hand off simple twists/stunts gives credence to this being a problem as well.

Will the younger, "untainted" OL on the roster better at executing when their chance comes?

It was a little bit of everything with those two.

1) Both needed redshirts to gain strength and lose bad weight, but neither got it due to depth.

2) Neither had the opportunity to settle into a position and gain experience there to get comfortable with technique for their spot. Kc was RT, LT, LG and then LT again. Darling was RT, LT and then LG.

3) Bad coaching for two years.

4) Horrible S&C, guys told to get fat and focus on their body weight instead of body composition.

5) Lack of confidence/chemistry from all of the above

Next year will be interesting to say the least. Hard to really project who will play well when we don’t know who is playing where. A lot will depend on whether TSL stays at RT or moves to LT. Will Donaldson move to one of the OT spots or stay inside? DMoney said Searels wants Donaldson at RT, which puts TSL at LT. Then you have Gaynor, who I think starts at C next year with Gauthier moving to LG. RG imo will be Scaife w Reed getting time at one of the OG spots. Not sure how much Mahoney will play, maybe he goes to C. I think the better of KLH and Hillery plays LT w the other at RT. Campbell and the 4th OL, depending on who it is, likely RS

It's definitely a culture thing. Nebraska and Wisconsin always have great Olines. It's not like they've kept the same Oline coach for 15 years either.
