Canes have 4 commits in the top200 and 2 current players

I think there’s a good chance we can keep 3/4 of signees. If shields goes in that #36 slot, it will be tough

LHP David Shields #36
RHP Lazaro Collera #123
LHP Johnny King #126
OF Michael Torres #161

RHP Gage Ziehl #88
LHP Rafe Schlesinger #147

That would go a long way in helping the pitching staff if Collera and King signed. I still think Schlesinger goes. Collera is already up to 97 mph. Needs work on the off speed pitches but could be a weekend starter. I think King being so young will come to school. Plenty of time since he will only be 20 by his junior year.

those rankings are basically telling everyone but Shields (high school wise) to go to college....unless some team throws money late if they whiff on a kid earlier.

I think thats high for Ziehl. Unless they are thinking back end bullpen guy. Get him running it back up to 97-99 for 1-2 innings with his stuff could be great for situations or even potentially closing since he does have more than just a FB and Slider.

Love the back-end bullpen spot for Gage. Very fiery and has very good spin on that slider.

I thought conventional wisdom was that 1st ten round guys always sign, unless their asking price is too high. Are you saying that's the reason they aren't ranked higher?

Oh no...def not. I just think once you fall past the 1st or 2nd round as a high school pitcher you are in that realm of "we like him but its going to take some time and nothing is guaranteed" it can become a guessing game to some degree and teams arent as invested in you at that point.

Money talks...Collero for example is 6'6 230...big kid...some team could love that and take him based on that real high. But I dont watch him and go "Holy crap thats a #1 arm in a few years . I see a big high school kid with potential but needs some seasoning. Now with NIL why not go to college and live the good life and bet on yourself.

But top 10 round money is tough to turn down regardless...or the idea of being a pro baseball player when you only have so many bullets in the gun. There are a ton of variables. And you have to bet on yourself too...say Collero goes in the 4th but decides to be a Cane. The work really begins then.
