This game has quickly become the premiere rivalry game in Broward County. Cypress Bay has only been open for 11 years, but they have become a powerhouse program under the leadership of HC Mark Guandolo, who won multiple State Championships at Chaminade-Madonna. Miramar has grown in consistency and explosiveness under alum turned Head Coach Damon Cogdell, and has been a perennial contender to win the State Championship under his direction.
These teams hate each other, and rightfully so. This rivalry has gone back and forth over the last few years. I wrote a Series History for my blog leading up to last year's playoff game (in this same round). Get caught up: http://miramarsports.blogspot.com/2011/11/miramar-vs-cypress-bay-series-history.html
Miramar was victorious last year by a score of 23-7. Relive the action with my game recap: http://miramarsports.blogspot.com/2011/11/playoff-game-recap-regional-semifinal.html
This year, Cypress Bay is District Champion, aided greatly by what can only be called a "bonehead mistake" by RB Eric Pittman. Read Manny Navarro's story about his quest for redemption here: http://www.miamiherald.com/2012/11/...ric-pittman-looking.html#.UK9ku7PA39c.twitter
Both teams have some great college recruits.
For Cypress Bay - 2013 RB Matt Dayes (NCSU commit), 2013 WR/S Alex Montgomery (Wake Forest Commit), 2013 QB/ATH Jaranta Lewis, 2013 LB Nico Marley (grandson of reggae legend Bob), 2013 CB Boaz Joseph (Wisconsin offer), 2014 RB/DB Marquese Dudley-Gordon (Multiple offers; their best prospect in my opinion), and any Guandolo team has great offensive lineman also.
For Miramar - 2013 LB Jermaine Grace (Cane target, read my Catch Up with him), 2013 WR Sean Avant (multiple offers), 2013 OL Mike Miranda (multiple offers), 2013 OL Delvin Arnold, 2013 DL/OL Telvin Arnold, 2013 DL Ja'Quan Smith, 2014 QB Nick Jeanty, 2014 RB Eric Pittman, 2014 RB Cameron Rigby, 2014 LB Ryan Samuels, 2015 CB Tyrek Cole, 2015 CB Jeffery Hill Jr, 2015 OL Leeward Brown, 2015 WR Khalil Lewis, and much more.
In short, there will be top level collegiate talent on the field for every play, competing their hardest to end the season of their most hated rivals.
As per usual, I'll be live tweeting the game. Follow me at @MiramarSports on twitter for the live commentary. I'll be posting a full game recap on my blog (miramarsports.blogspot.com) and as a recruiting thread here also.
