Apologies if there is another DC thread, or if this guy has already been talked about. Actually, no apologies at all.

I'd like to see us kick the tires with this guy as a DC candidate. He has been DB coach under Freeman at both Cincy and ND. He will immediately step in and take over whenever Golden gets a HC gig or goes back to the NFL. ND has had to give him multiple raises to keep him from taking other DC jobs the last couple of years. They've been hit hard this year with injuries, and their secondary has continued to be elite. And he is a top notch recruiter as well. Anybody who has watched their games this year knows his secondary tackling and coverage skills makes our looks like a second tier optimist group.

That Notre Dame defense (similar star rankings in recruiting as the Canes) is the strength of that CFP team. This current ND defense under Al Golden is nothing like D’Nofrio’s defense at Miami. If we can get our current Canes defense to play half as good, I will be very happy. If Mickens can get our defense to cover and tackle like they did, I am all for him

It was @Memnon on Friday who mentioned Mickens to me. I would like this hire if it ever came true

If he suggested it then I like it even more than I already did.

And as far as a training school goes, I guess we should stick with the guy with a lot of experience and his secondary was letting opposing WRs run routes completely unguarded

Mickens is a great coach. Half that defense is out hurt and they just keep running kids off the bench who cover and tackle. Playing 7 first or 2nd year kids in the starting lineup.

Did the Purdue HC get hired yet, he would be a good one as well if if comes to that.
