Who from Canes Insight media will be out at Miami's Pro Day on March 30th? Also, will Canes Insight be sending someone to cover the combine which opens today?

And who do you guys expect to post the best numbers?

As I said in anther post. This is the U's finish product and they should get or support.

We shouldn't wait for others to validate our athletes.

Excited to see how Richt and staff organizes this for our guys. Will probably hear the reoccurring theme of "Wow, this is way better than it was under Al Golden"

Miami's pro day isn't until March 30th

You know, you are right. I stand corrected the NFL combine, which runs Tuesday through Monday, Feb. 29 is in Indianapolis.

Like an artist, I'm sensitive about my CANES. LOL

Can a pro day have a recruiting event attached to it?

I'd be very surprised if that were legal. Would put HS kids awfully close to NFL scouts

Didn't Bruce Feldman talk about that in Cane Mutiny? He said they had a Junior Day going on at the same time so kids would look over and see out-going Canes working out in front of NFL scouting personnel & coaches...or am I mistaken?

I have the opposite fear/expectation...I'm usually glass-half-full kind-of-guy, but AG left the cupboard rather bare, other than Artier Burns we won't have a lot of talent in this draft. I think our Pro Day might be rather underwhelming...unfortunately.

Now next year it should be amazing.

I think Deon will be an amazing safety in the NFL; honestly. I also think McCord can earn a nice living becoming a 3rd down rush specialist. Scott shows really good hands (although he had a tank job in the Sun Bowl)...he might be a nice get as a UFA. But your right, this year, I dunno....maybe 2-3 players get drafted and the rest will have to earn their keep via UFA.

The reason I was so upset about the lack of coverage, which was my bad on confusing the dates by the way. I was thinking along the lines of recruiting such as Ver pointed out above. But my thoughts were that the University could market that event in such a way that future recruits would someday dream to be apart of it. You know, if you remember back around 2000 and 2001 it was so much hype around that event that it could have been a huge selling point for many years to come on the recruiting trail.

I'm not claiming one way or the other, because I honestly don't have a clue. Would just surprise me if the NCAA would allow something like that, but not allow other things that are less exposure to the NFL and agents/scouts.

Then again, that sounds exactly like the NCAA, so....

It hurts to admit it but you are probably right. But this event was once bigger than the Nike football camp. Unlike any other University in the country, Miami was the only school that could host a Pro Day that would bring every NFL team in the league. That's huge and I think the streak ended a few years ago. The U actually had to turn down requests from players of other university's (FSU) who wanted to participate in Miami's Pro Day because it provided the most exposure. That's huge and we have to get back to that and find a way to market that for recruiting.

Yeah, I was a big Golden defender for a long time but I was wrong. The reality of it is that the program eroded SO MUCH under his stewardship.

And what we're seeing now has me so excited and it's so refreshingly surprising. I didn't think Richt wouldn't be able to turn it around, but there is no way I saw this much excitement, this much promise, a 9-10 win season is eminently possible this season - we had no right, with how far Golden let thing fall, to expect what Richt is accomplishing.

So pumped!

Deon Bush had a better overall career than Artie Burns... I don't get why some cane fans act like hes irrelevant. One of the best all around safeties in this draft.

I don't know about "best all around safeties in this draft" maybe your "all around" qualifier makes that statement true but he won't be drafted until the 4th round at the earliest. And while I'm from San Diego and write about them and I think Deon Bush would be a nice pickup for my Chargers, how sad is it that we're trying to get pumped about a guy who probably won't slip into the back part of day 2? We hold the record for most consecutive years with a first round picks (14)...and while I believe strongly that we're headed back towards that, we're not there yet. Bush is fine. But when Burns (who is likely a 3rd round pick) and Bush (4-5) are your highlights, it's a down year by Miami standards.

You know, I think we have failed as fans, media and administrators to put the pressure on the AD to put a system in place that properly measures the coaching staffs success with recruiting and development of players. We do an excellent job on the front end of coverage of Nike Camps and providing leads on potential recruits that we think the coaches should take a look at. But on the back end, I think the combines and pro days are great places to get a critically objective and an unbiased reading on the talent level and development of our program. I think this key part has been missing from the Administrations annual review process for so long that it has allowed what you described above to drop to such levels. If it is implemented, I think the AD can either find ways to get the Head Coach what he needs to be successful early in the downward trend or replace him if needed, rather than wait until its blatantly obvious that he needs to go.

I doubt Deon is going that low, 3rd at worse... Every defensive player under Golden dropped a round or Two below where they would've gone under any other coaching staff. Has more to do with the defense they played in than their actual talent level.
