As the Miami Hurricanes gear up for their upcoming game against Boston College, head coach Mario Cristobal emphasized the team's commitment and preparation in his weekly press conference today.
Cristobal began by highlighting the team's immediate transition into practice mode, given the short week and upcoming travel. "Had to get practice right away with a short week game on Friday, traveling up to Boston," he said, noting the significance of a good week of work and the hopeful return of key players like Elijah Arroyo.
“He’s one of our best players. Even last year when he was lost, it drastically affected what we do and how we do things. He’s been through a lot, being nicked up, but he’s a dynamic football player. He’s been sorely missed,” Cristobal added on Arroyo.
The Miami coach stressed the challenge posed by Boston College, a team known for its physicality. "Traditionally a game that's always been a tough game, a hard-fought game against a very physical Boston College team," Cristobal stated, setting the stage for a road contest.
Discussing players' potential early entry into the NFL draft, Cristobal underscored the importance of providing accurate information. "Honesty and transparency, making sure we gather and provide all information relevant to a draft status. It's important that we're providing them with some really good information, accurate information from the right sources," he explained, highlighting his role in guiding players through crucial career decisions.
On the topic of players opting out of bowl games, Cristobal expressed his philosophy straightforwardly: "My opinion, anytime you have a chance to play football, you play football." He emphasized the unpredictability of the sport and the value of seizing every opportunity to play.
Cristobal also praised the overall strength of the ACC, remarking on the high level of play across the conference. "The caliber of quarterback play is really high. The level of the trench play in this conference is really good. Everyone has good three techniques, good edge rushers," he said, acknowledging the depth of talent in the ACC.
Addressing individual player progress, Cristobal spoke about tight end Jaleel Skinner, urging him to fully commit to his potential. "Approach to the game has to be a lot more diligent. He has to get more out of himself, and we need to get more out of him for him to be a productive player in our system. He’s a really good young man – He’s a talented young man, he can run, he’s a bit thin but he’s working on his body. I think he has a really bright future," he noted.
