Miami might be in the midst of fall camp, but just because the focus for most inside the football offices has shifted to the upcoming season, doesn’t mean that the recruiting has stopped.

The Hurricanes picked up a trio of commitments last week in Columbus three-star cornerback Trajan Bandy, Jacksonville Sandlewood three-star linebacker Bradley Jennings Jr. and Lake Worth three-star defensive end Jonathan Garvin, and now holds pledges from 20 prospects with the magic number expected to grow to 24 or 25 before things are all said and done.

Notes
• Miami has turned the heat up on Covington (Ga.) Newton four-star wide receiver Jeremiah Holloman and he appears to be very receptive to what the coaches are saying.
InsideTheU reported last month that Holloman was planning to visit Miami at some point during the recruiting process, and we have since learned that trip will likely occur the weekend of Oct. 8 for the Florida State game although it’s unclear at the time if that will be an official or unofficial visit.
Miami has been telling a number of high profile guys that they want them in town for games this season, but if it’s possible, the coaches would prefer prospects to use unofficials and then return in December or January for officials in order to get more face time with the coaches.
Holloman continues to retweet pro-UM things on Twitter (sorry, that’s somewhat important) and is good friends with current Miami commit DeeJay Dallas. Georgia, Auburn and Tennessee look to be the main competition for the one-time Michigan commit, who is ranked by 247Sports as the nation’s No. 69 overall prospect, but Notre Dame, Penn State and Oklahoma State are all also involved.
• Sticking with Florida State and potential visitors for that weekend, InsideTheU has also learned that Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha Catholic Top247 running back Anthony McFarland Jr. is expected to be on the sidelines for the annual rivalry game.
It has been well documented in the past about how McFarland Jr. is a top priority for the Hurricanes this cycle, and that remains the case although the nation’s No. 3 ranked all-purpose back continues to hint that Alabama leads and that Maryland remains right there in the mix.
McFarland Jr. is also expected to visit Tuscaloosa and College Park during the season for unofficial visits before taking officials to all three schools and then announcing a decision on Jan. 1 at the Under Armour All-American Game.
• Miami continues to search for offensive linemen and one tackle to keep an eye on is Gadsden (Ala.) City’s Toryque Bateman. The three-star prospect was at Michigan last week for a BBQ and was expected to commit to the Wolverines at some point before returning home, but he elected to hold off on making a decision.
247Sports’ Steve Lorenz says that’s because Bateman still has some academic work left on the table before he’s a take in Ann Arbor, which in turn might spell some good news for Miami. Lorenz said that Michigan is expected to take just two more offensive linemen in the class and is close to filling those spots. That means Michigan might not be an option for Bateman in a few months and assuming that his grades improve, he could then in turn become more of a realistic one for the Hurricanes.
Bateman told InsideTheU over the weekend that he continues to speak with offensive line coach Stacy Searels and received his official offer letter from UM back on Aug. 1.
• Amite (La.) High five-star wide receiver Devonta Smith was supposed to announce a decision on Monday, but flooding in the area caused him to postpone a commitment ceremony at his high school.
While a new date hasn’t been set, there’s some rumors out there that Miami might be more of a player in the recruitment than most think, and that echoes what we wrote on Sunday in our Crystal Ball Forecast.
Alabama is the leader and likely pick whenever an announcement has been made, but head coach Mark Richt and wide receivers coach Ron Dugans have given Smith something to think about.
• Should Miami miss on Smith look for Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas three-star wide receiver Michael Harley to get even more of a look from Dugans. InsideTheU wrote two weeks ago that Harley was in contact Dugans and that continues to be the case as the two parties try to develop a relationship.
Harley might not be the biggest wideout at 5-9, 155, but he can fly, and that's something that Dugans covets at the position. St. Thomas Aquinas faces Dillard in a kickoff classic on Thursday. Miami will have its eyes on the nation's No. 48 ranked wide receiver per 247Sports.
• There’s not much news to report on the 2018 quarterback front for Miami, but Moore (Ok.) Southmoore Top247 quarterback Casey Thompson says he continues to communicate with Richt and the rest of the Hurricanes coaches.
We included Thompson in our way-too-early 2018 class projection on Monday in that’s in large part because Oklahoma (Thompson’s presumed leader the past few months and the school where his bother played) accepted a commitment from a top 2018 quarterback last week in Cameron Rising. Thompson added that there’s a good chance he returns at some point during the season for his third visit to Miami.
• The Austin American-Statesman reported Monday that Texas wide receiver DeAndre McNeal was looking to transfer to Miami. InsideTheU was told by folks in Coral Gables that the Hurricanes have no interest in bringing McNeal on board. The Hurricanes however have put some feelers out on LSU wide receiver transfer Tyron Johnson.
