2019 CB Kaiir Elam is a name to watch in south Florida for the next recruiting cycle – the four-star North Palm Beach product has had Miami on his radar for a while and there was even talk about him possibly committing to the Canes in July at Paradise Camp.
Although that did not happen, the lengthy 6-1, 175-pound cornerback is paying close attention to what’s happening down in Coral Gables.
“I love what Miami is doing and what Coach Richt is getting those guys to do and how they’re playing. Coach Mike Rumph has the corners playing great too,” he said. “I went to the Notre Dame game this year and that was really exciting to see it rock and explode like that. Miami is definitely a school I’ll be considering, but I’m just taking my time with everything right now. I love Miami’s program.”
The atmosphere at Hard Rock Stadium for that game was a major eye-opener for The Benjamin School defensive back prospect.
“I’ve been to a bunch of Dolphins games since I’m down here in south Florida and I had never seen the stadium even close to that before. That was live,” he added.
As far as his junior season is concerned, Elam was a little hard on himself despite allowing only 4 catches on his side this season.
“I feel like I did OK,” Elam said. “I think I had a way better year last year even though my junior year is supposed to be one of my best. Half of that came with not really getting to touch the ball on offense because I was getting double-teamed – and then on special teams, they wouldn’t even kick to me sometimes. Defensively, it was the same thing because they didn’t throw at me, so that affected my stats.”
“I did feel like I got way more physical shedding blocks to make tackles and I became a better leader. I think I became more of a complete corner this year – my playmaking was more on display in my sophomore season, but I improved all-around and I can only control what I can control.”
Another positive for Miami’s chances comes in the form of the “561” pipeline that has been established over the last few recruiting cycles.
“Amari Carter and Gurvan Hall are like my big brothers – we work out together and all that,” Elam said.
