Miami Hosting Florida State is a Homecoming for FSU Assistant

The Miami Hurricanes will be looking for their first ACC Conference win of the season Wednesday when they play host to the Florida State Seminoles. The trip for the Noles to South Florida will serve as a homecoming for their current assistant coach, Jake Morton. Coach Morton is a former Hurricane basketball player from 1989-1993 as well as assistant from 2008-2011.

Morton spent three seasons at the UM on Frank Haith's staff, all resulting in 20+ win seasons for the Canes. As a player at Miami, Morton played for Leonard Hamilton who is currently the head coach at Florida State. During his playing days for Miami, Morton scored 909 points, grabbed 145 rebounds and handed out 194 assists along with making 136 threes in his career. Morton was also named the teams defensive player of the year, three times during his playing days. Before getting into coaching, Morton played six years professionally in Israel.

In addition to being an assistant at Miami and Florida State, Morton has also assisted on the division one level at St. Francis (Pa.) (2001-04), James Madison (2005-07), Western Kentucky (2012-13), Coppin State (2015-16), Jacksonville State (2017-21) and East Carolina (2022-24).
