Miami Basketball: What Hurricanes' Dominance Means for ACC..

Private school money is a plus? Even though we charge a arm and a leg and have billions through fundraising I have been told for years the athletic dept is broke. lol. right

Interesting article with a big IF. IF Miami can recruit top players, and this is a big IF, then they could challenge the best in the ACC for many years. Lets see if coach L can bring a top recruit south in 14 or 15.

Yeah, that's all neat and stuff, but if we have a **** year next year after losing 5 of our top 6 players, we're screwed. Unless we win the title this year. That's the potential saving grace that next year won't matter.

Not if you recruited well for 2013 and signed kids early for 2014.

We're losing 50 points per game after this season. Recruiting well for 2013 won't mean a thing unless we instantly become Duke or UNC with the theory of "Restocking, not rebuilding" coming into play. If we want to become a habitually included team in the conversation, we must be a final 4 team, probably better than that.

Actually one kid we have is in prep school (2013) so that will matter because he has more experience or is older than the average freshman.

My post reflects that we will already have recruits in the bag (they signed) so even if we do have one off-year we have a good squad coming in 2013/2014 who will be ready to play in 2014 and 2015 when needed.

Also, wouldn't surprise me if we signed a JUCO or took a 5th year transfer, which would help even more next year.

You'd think telling a kid we have 1 starter locked in for next year (Larkin) and the rest are up for grabs would entice some of these guys. I know Brown and Jekiri will likely start too, but it's not like it's really their spot to lose.

Yeah, but the 2013 recruits are gone. We got some 3 stars that are still considering us, but beyond Burnett as a 4 star, we're looking at a lot of 3's. I would think that our 2014 recruiting class will be the bigger one to think will lead to a long term development of being a strong team in the ACC, and a sweet 16 bow out will not entice kids from that class to come in. We need a big time run to get 2014 kids to stand up and say "Yeah, going there and continuing this run of excellence while enjoying South Florida".

6 4stars and 1 5star have Miami as "on their list" for 2014, locking down 3 of those would be an insanely huge score and would be possible with a major run and showing that we are a culture of winning. I don't know, maybe just me, but I'm really pessimistic moving forward from this season.

There are still kids out there (Henry) and we need bodies for next year.

We could use some big bodies for next year considering we're looking at a front court consisting of Akpejiori, Jekiri and Swoope. Henry and Etou (both "PF" designated players) are pretty vital if we want to have a decent bounce back season. I'm genuinely looking at 2014 as the recruiting year that will determine if we are building a program or if this was a one off season.

Agreed.

Back in the early 90's, Miami was courting Nolan Richardson and ended up with Ham, several coaches and media writers called Miami a sleeping giant. Now with an on campus stadium and a very nice practice facility, AND an elite coach? Sky really is the limit, just gotta convince the big time players this can be a legit place to play and develop.
