Watching these highlights really broke my heart. That 2008 class has soo much potential. If they would have had a coach with vision and an understanding what it takes to run a college program in the 2000s. Nutrition, Strength and conditioning, film study. That group of kids had so much natural talent that if Randy actually had them getting bigger and in shape they could have won 11 games even with Whipple calling the plays.
A few things:
1. I think the staff learned a lesson about the risk in hiring a first time HC.
2. I think you guys blame Whipple way too much for the failures in the offense.
3. Don't sweat this stuff, there is nothing we can do but go forward and succeed.
I'm not blaming Whipple we also had 3 garbage DC's in that time frame also.
I'm not beating a dead horse. I'm just saying that when I watch those highlights I feel badly for the Kids who came to MIAMI to become CHAMPIONS. They came to MIAMI to get prepared to go to the Pros. and when they committed to the U they didn't know how other big time college football teams are run. So they went with the flow. Look at Lavonta David he was a 2* and unheralded member of those Bulls teams with all those 5* players around him. And look at him now. The only member of that team still in the NFL and the lowest rated of all them. I really feel bad for those kids who had their dreams ruined here.
Who do you feel badly for? Some of these kids bolted at the first sign of hardwork and change?
IMO, it's okay to feel bad for Spence since he stayed till the end and gave it his all. He was a real leader who didn't have any off the field mishaps.
I think you are forgetting a few major things (on highlights and rankings):
1. They are called "highlight" tapes for a reason. They don't guarantee anything.
2. They came to Miami for assorted reasons.
3. Sean Spence is in the NFL as is Brandon Washington.
