(00:01) allow me to set the scene Gainesville Florida University of Florida campus driving by Fraternity Row Lake Alice is on one side the Frat houses are on the other side it's just gotten dark Miami has just clobbered Florida we see people dancing on both sides of the street and there there's a lot of green and orange and I mean they are getting after it there's twerking yeah twerk on truck beds yes and you and you get you hear the boom you hear the boom and then you hear it who who pull over that *** too (00:41) [Laughter] fat if you can't celebrate a 41-17 win against your in-state rival with Trina and Trick Daddy what are you even doing this was this was a relief and a release from my Miami fan base that has been waiting for something like this to happen they've been waiting for a team that looked like the teams they remembered when they grew up
(06:14) last year I have a lot of hope that Miami can duplicate as and I'm not saying they're as good uh yet but I think that they can overachieve in a way that people you know wouldn't expect it to based on that past but I want to ask you a question let's just use this to Workshop a little bit I have to do with top 10 yeah after the LSU okay all right here we go where does this team get put on Andy's top 10 because I I went to bed literally the last thing I thought about last night before I went to sleep is (06:39) where do I do with Miami so I I'm gonna call back to your your old friend Doug lay Marie so when I was an AP poll voter Doug was also an AP poll voter and he started doing this thing where he just sort of ripped it apart after week one throughout all the preseason expectations and only voted based on games that had actually been played this season and it would produce some pretty wild stuff well if if you're doing that this year you're going to put Miami probably in the top three based on what we've seen between (07:11) week zero and week one now I I will tell you right now I have it easy because I'm doing Bracketology so I have to use the college football playoff seating rules so I can't put Miami lower than three like I'll have Miami seated one two or three yeah in the bracketology that's a spoiler alert we haven't put that column out yet but I mean based on what we've seen so far I'm going to say they're going to win the ACC which which means they're going to be probably one of those top four seeds and probably I (07:42) would think ahead of the Big 12 Champion but look if they play like that every week they might be ahead of the the Big 10 or SEC Champion too it just depends on how things go yeah I mean Andy I put Miami at number 10 in my preseason poll yeah and people went berserk so like I feel like they already deserve to be probably in the top seven yeah I would think so and it's not it it's going to change over time and we don't know they're going to play this way every week but again if this is repeatable and (08:12) consistent they are a top 10 team for sure yeah so you know I don't know that I'm going to vote in the same way as the great dougl Maurice used to um because I do think that you know that premise at times might not give Credence to what we know and the abundance of information that we have about rosters and we have to use that in yeah I have to use that I'm not somebody who can just be like Vanderbilt won week one against a team that we thought had a chance to win the ACC in like I'm not gonna do that but uh (08:45) I I do think that um I might be putting Miami in the top five when I get around to writing this on the airplane I I do think that's fairly reasonable
and anybody who watched that game is going to go yeah no you can say oh I don't know that Florida was that good but look there are NFL players on florida's roster it is not the best constructed roster in the world but it is a decent roster that Miami thoroughly dominated you know what I hate and I hate it I hate it I hate it I'm like I'm trying not to scream we're in your house (09:18) you've got kids we come into a game 48 hours ago and we're looking at this game and saying this is one of the most intriguing matchups of the preseason we have two teams who are evenly matched and we're going to find out a lot about both teams then one team kicks the other team's *** and if you're one of those people that just goes well Florida stinks then like what are we doing like you have to you have to like yes it's possible that Florida stinks yes it's possible that Miami loses three (09:52) games this year and what we saw was a mirage based on playing a stinky team yes of course that's possible but you can't constantly strip away everybody's achievements by turning your nose down at how bad or good their opponent was and and lastly beating the crap out of Florida even if this is a bad version of Florida still makes that Line in the Sand between us and them and they pass that test with flying colors so if you're one of these people that like watches that game and sees Restrepo running all over the Field cam Ward (10:24) keeping his composure uh you know their lines controlling both sides the line of scrimmage without their best pass rusher and goes Florida stinks like I cannot stand I cannot stand like how do you view the sport why do you watch the games just say everybody stinks when everybody wins and give no credit you know what I'm going on notice right now Andy Miami has my respect until they lose it and I'm not going to belittle their accomplishment the thing they've been dying to do for years because we think Florida might not be very good (10:52) this year well and and the other thing is before the game we were coming up with way okay here's how Florida beats Miami here's and one of the things that we talked about was well that atmosphere in the swamp well I can tell you when the game started the atmosphere in the swamp was electric and it did not bother Miami at all so guess what if you think that that might bother them and other than than Louisville and they don't play Florida State and Tallahassee they're not going to face that sort of (11:22) environment very much this season Virginia Tech comes to them so L they're not have to worry about Lane Stadium they might not see that until the playoff and by the way if they keep playing well they might be hosting a playoff game or not even playing in the first round because they have a buy when we were coming into the Miami game or the Florida game for Miami talking about Miami how many different things could we have conceived could have gone wrong cam Ward throws four picks in the swamp it's too loud in there uh they get (11:54) mauled on the line of scrimmage by an SEC opponent uh you know their their receivers don't get any separation Damen Martinez is has a bad like all these where did they come up short nowhere their receivers got open they mauled Florida on both lines of scrimmage the noise didn't bother them they passed every single test and if you pass every single test and you're the your grading rubric as Florida stinks then I think you stink okay that's that's what I think so I mean like let's watch the (12:23) games it's week one we know but as we know that things can happen and as you this sport you know things can switch on a dime and hey you know we could be sitting here in two weeks watching a Miami South Florida game where the the score is 13 to 10 in the fourth quarter we've been around the block we know how the sport works but for the time being you know for somebody like me who has never had a hard time being negative and being hard on people I think that the new Ari needs to give people flowers when they deserve it and I think Miami (12:52) deserves their flowers and you might be a hater but like I am not a hater I think Miami has a chance to be very good this year I'm gonna make ARA Miami Bas mix for his trip home yeah because before we got to the Trina and Trick Daddy scene we were walking through the parking lot somebody's playing splack pack Hey listen Miami fans celebrate play the splack pack play two Live Crew play DJ Magic Mike because you you you did you came up to Gainesville and you dropped the base that's exactly what you (13:24) did

the question that you and I had about Miami was all off season we knew on paper that they would have the talent like we looked at Cam Ward Damen Martinez we looked at that tight end room that wide receiver room the very talented offensive line their defensive front semi borrow from the portal which so many people were after he got a sack yesterday Tyler Baron was Unreal Ruben Bane goes down and you're like uh o okay he's down but uh you I mean you're still (04:08) dominating yeah Joe they were so cohesive in in only week one with a brand new quarterback they that's the part that that would be scary the most or would should scare teams the most Joe what do they look like when they start getting cohesion when cam Ward gets more cohesion with these receivers when this running game starts jelling more that's the part that I think is the most scary thing about this entire Miami team because we talked in the offseason like hey man we know that they're very talented and they're gonna be more (04:41) talented than every a lot of other teams that they play the problem is you got a whole bunch of guys coming in for one like at one time and then how does that cohesiveness work well it worked pretty good and they're only going to get better here's another thing too that I think is is going to get nly overlooked not only are they brand new but they beat Billy at their own game Joe 34 minutes of time of possession for Miami they did whatever they wanted to they played around with their food they literally were just playing around with (05:17) them but you want to know the one thing that I thought was the biggest thing for Miami when you see teams that have a lot of players from the portal and a lot of new pieces and young guys you normally have a lot pre- snap penalties you normally have a lot of bad things going on Joe it was Florida with the snaps it was Florida with some false starts Miami only had two penalties in the entire game too and I'm like dude they're only going to continue to get better here well I think that that goes in line with (05:50) what we're talking about here with Billy why this is clearly done to compare two coaches in their they're both in their third year now where they they've been around and established you've got got one roster that was extremely aggressive in the portal and was built with a bunch of kids that weren't playing together last year and they looked fluid they looked confident they looked like they've been playing together for four years and then you have a Florida team where you lost guys you didn't really (06:18) bring much in that was going to spark any excitement and they looked sloppy it was all the same crap as last year they just looked poorly coached unfocused making silly silly stupid mistakes and all of that showed up and and no no aggressiveness no aggressiveness that's to me like the the real real problem with Billy Napier is that you this game you you're getting punched in the mouth punched in the mouth and there's no desire by your team to fight back it felt like they gave up in the second half I see a lot of people (06:54) in the chat saying that we're saying that they're going to win a National Title but to all of you that's in the chat right now let me tell you this they dominated Florida the way that Georgia would let me let me let me say what let me just repeat what I just said Miami dominated Florida the way that Georgia would have now you can you can make any bearings about it you're right it is week one there's a lot of football to be played we didn't say that they were winning a national championship but (07:24) you're G to have to start telling me where they're not they're not just as talented as a lot of teams in the country and and here's another thing too Joe you brought up an in name so so all to all the people in the chat name a team that you think right now can beat them name a team on their schedule right now that you think that can beat them forget the playoffs for just a moment they dominated Florida the way that Georgia would have and that's the point that you got to look at it's not that (07:53) they dominated by throwing the football Joe they had three sacks three sacks they could had more if Graham Mertz and DJ lagway wouldn't have gotten out of the pocket and scrambled they would have been in Big Time issues
Miami I'm not going to sit here and anoint them the greatest thing ever I'm not going to do that just yet um but (06:39) there's a couple takeaways from this game one we tried to tell you we tried to tell you that this team is ridiculous now what I was most impressed with was not their playmaking ability because we knew they had that right um what I was most impressed with was the few mistakes that were made in the game usually it felt like week one Miami last year and look they look like a well-oiled machine last year against Texas A&M remember that was week two I believe and they looked great in that game so we've seen them look really good (07:16) in the beginning of the year but man with Cam Ward at quarterback they're very very different I mean the way he can move and flip his hips I mean the touchdown that he made that he threw rolling to his left and back back across his body the touchdown that he threw at the end of the half like we're talking about pinpoint accuracy that was on display and I'm not an NFL draft Guru okay I'm not like an NFL draft analyst I don't do mock drafts I don't it's not really my thing I don't (07:48) think there was a quarterback in the country that improved their draft stock more in one game than Cam Ward did yesterday that was a clinic uh it wasn't Flawless but it was really really really good um the weapons that they have awesome uh I love the the way that they're Distributing to the receivers like we all knew about Restrepo but they got way more guys even getting the tight ends involved early in the game so really just just a really outstanding performance I mean Tyler Baron Damen Martinez guys from the portal (08:23) transferring in that looked like they'd been there for years I mean really comfortable the one concerning thing was Ruben Bane getting a little banged up and and that's something that we'll have to we'll have to monitor and and watch but that was about as good of a start as you could possibly want and and those that were kind of leaning towards taking Florida um I don't think this is a referendum on Florida in the future I think Miami is a top 10 team it's as simple as that Florida is (08:56) about a six seven- win team I I really still think that they can get to that Mark I just think that Florida is not as talented as Miami and they're also not as veteran as Miami think about how many snaps cam ward has played think about how many snaps uh Damen Martinez has played uh I know Montreal Johnson and and Graham Merz have played a lot of snaps as well but think about some of the difference makers uh meech Powell had an interception the transfer from Washington uh think about how many snaps collectively have been played in college (09:32) football by the Miami team maybe not all together but in other places versus what you saw from the Florida Gators who still are relatively young and I do think that there's things to like about what I saw I thought DJ Lago looked pretty good I still think grah Merz is the guy I still think he's your guy moving forward at least at this moment I thought there were some nice answers like the Run by Montel Johnson I've never seen him look that fast the guy who's never been a huge home run hitting back but I thought there were (10:00) some positives to be taken from that um I just think they ran to a buzz saww against a team that has Elite Talent and I think those that are killing Florida right now are not fully aware of just how talented Miami is um I still think Florida can win games I still think Florida can get to a bowl I still think Billy Napier has a chance to be the coach for the Gators in 25 but I know that those are not popular sentiments right now um my take away from that game yesterday was not how bad Florida is and what an atrocious job (10:34) they've done rebuilding the roster I don't see it that way my take away from that game is that Miami is a playoff Contender uh by far the best team in week one based on what I saw in the ACC and a team that is going to be a huge problem for every single team they play and that includes the likes of Georgia that includes the likes of Ohio State if Miami can stay healthy they can beat those teams I mean this could be a team that we're talking about as a possible National Championship Contender compared (11:02) to Texas last year I think they're a lot more like Texas after seeing him week one than I might have even thought in the preseason so this team's they're they're legit
