The obvious trait would be winning so what traits make a great coach. First is building a successful staff, something that so many coaches fail at. Manny took a TOP OC from Alabama that was a huge bust but got Lashlee who has proven to be successful. Was Manny lucky or smart, maybe a little of both. You want coaches who coach fundamentals, if a defender can't tackle, he fails, a receiver who can't catch is no help. A great coach inspires his team and a fiery coach has a team that takes that personality and plays inspired.

What doesn't? Take a look around. How many great NFL players are great coaches? Lombardi? Shula? Belichick? Walsh? It is unusual for highly talented players to become great coaches. Our DL sucked this year and as much as I love Jason, where was the attack from our supposed highly sought talent? Our LB's were non-existent yet Derek Nicholson was, well maybe he is a bad example for talented but LB U was missing pieces. I have no clue what our defensive backs coaching was, except pathetic under Clevix Jackson? and my favorite Isa Ferras Special teams. I know the fake punt worked but no TDs from special teams, a Miami trademark?

I know I'm rambling so I saved the best for last. Great coaches have fire in their guts and hate losing and you see that fire and the players do not want to disappoint that coach. I see fire from Mario but it seems to be internal and I think he holds back when he should express his disappoint instead of excusing it. He's a fiery Latino yet not firing out at his players that disappoint. After the GT loss he should've been so fired up for Syracuse that the dare not lose. Barrow and Lightfoot showed more fire than this team did all year long, I don't care who was right or wrong but don't accept mediocrity. I’ve met Don Soldinger a few times and what a no-nonsense intense coach he was. I can't imagine him tolerating this team’s attitude and until Mario lets lose it will be hard to win. Imagine JJ or Butch coaching this talent we currently have, the success they would have. When they were disappointed the team knew that improve or pay a penalty. I cannot recall any instance where Mario di anything intense except grind his teeth.
