After watching him in person at practice and in the spring scrimmages I really believe he is a significant upgrade from Tyler Horn. Shane is much more athletic as far as short area quickness and played with very good leverage. I think he will pay most dividends in the zone runs we ran alot last year. Horn was more of a position blocker and wasn't very powerful at the point of attack. Shane seems to be more of a drive blocker and we will need it up front seeing as without Lamar miller we probably won't be as explosive.

The center position is much overlooked by us as fans but it's so vital to sustaining a dominant run game. Take a look at any successful running team wether it be the power run game (Wisconsin) or a spread zone team (Oregon) their center is a key part of it. With a year to learn and now 2 years removed from high school I think alot should be expected out of McDermott and I think he excels at center.

and i'm not going to anoint McDermott til he shows in during the season. Linder might be the better option for C for all we know.

Tyler Horn was just smart and consistent. Never any missed snaps. But he was nowhere near D1 level physically. His bench was way low and he wasnt too strong in his legs

I hope McD is the truth at center, I'm sick and tired of how every year the line is supposed to be our stregnth and every year thy underperform, even with future NFL players on it.

I feel like he's the biggest question mark on the OL, we need him to step up and have a solid season.
