Just read in another thread where Oregon fans were complaining about how long Mario took to hire/announce assistant coaches so decided to look into some dates

- Donte Williams hired January 4, 2018
- Jim Mastro hired January 20, 2018
- Cort Dennison hired January 21, 2018
- Bobby Williams hired January 26, 2018
- Alex Mirabal hired February 20, 2018

Cort Dennison hired at Louisville: January 3, 2019
- Ken Wilson hired January 22, 2019

Marcus Arroyo hired at Nevada: December 12, 2019
- Joe Moorhead hired January 21, 2020

Michael Johnson hired at Miss State: January 28, 2019
- Jovon Bouknight hired February 19, 2019.. Fired March 7, 2020
- Bryan McClendon hired April 17, 2020

Jim Leavitt leaves Oregon: February 14, 2019
- Andy Avalos hired February 27, 2019

Andy Avalos hired at Boise State: January 8, 2021
- Tim DeRuyter hired January 22, 2021

Keith Heyward hired at Cal: January 25, 2021
- Marcel Yates hired February 23, 2021

I'm sure I missed a few but you get the drift so basically.. Think we are going to have to be even more patient than we thought

Best I could tell:

Mario hired at Florida International December 19, 2006

OC/QB James Coley hired January 5, 2007
RB Mike Cassano January 4, 2007
OL Greg Laffere January 17, 2007
WR Frank Ponce March 21, 2007
TE Alex Mirabal January 16, 2007

DC/LB Phil Galiano hired January 5, 2007
DL Bernard Clark January 2, 2007
DB Jeff Popovich January 4, 2007
ST Apollo Wright March 24, 2007

Definitely took a while on Ponce & Wright, but the other ones actually weren't too bad. Laffere & Mirabal a little under a month.

Did his mentors Butch or Saban ever take that long to make a decision?

Wondering whose footsteps he's following making these executive decisions.

Galiano (FIU DC) was January 10, 2007.

The coordinators are the key spots. 2007 was the only time Mario had to build a staff from scratch. He inherited the coordinators at Oregon, and then he had to fill in some position coaches when they left.

Mario had to hire Mastro at Oregon because Pimpleton followed Willie to F$U.
Mario had to hire Bobby Williams (ST) and Cort Dennison (OLBs) at Oregon because Woodie followed Willie to F$U.
Mario hired Mirabal to replace himself as a position coach, and Mirabal was the last guy hired in that first cycle.

I'm not sure WTF the Oregon fans are complaining about. The "latest" they ever had to wait was on McClendon, which only happened so late because of the lateness of when Bouknight left and/or was fired from Oregon. The "longest" wait was for Joe Moorhead, but he was still head coach at Mississippi State when the Oregon job first opened. Mario hired Moorhead less than 3 weeks after he was fired at MSU.

At Oregon, most of Mario's hires took less than 3 weeks from the time the position came open until the time it was filled, with the primary exceptions being McClendon and Moorhead.

Galiano (FIU DC) was January 10, 2007.
Galiano was announced by FIU on January 10th but news leaked that he took the job earlier (sound familiar?)

Friday, January 5, 2007

Rutgers suffered its first pocket-picking Thursday, when defensive ends coach Phil Galiano confirmed he'll be Florida International's new defensive coordinator.

Galiano, 29, began his tenure at Rutgers as a graduate assistant in 2003 and he said the opportunity to call his own defense at a Division I school -- and for former Scarlet Knights assistant and new head coach Mario Cristobal -- was too big to pass up.

"It was hard telling Coach [Greg] Schiano because he gave me my chance," the Pennsylvania native said. "And it was definitely hard knowing I'm going to be watching Rutgers play for a national title next year."

Fair enough. I used the FIU source, but you are correct. The 5th was a Friday, the 10th was a Wednesday.

Very sad that Galiano missed out on coaching with Rutgers during that 2007 national championship year...

Bottom line, Mario was pretty quick with things at FIU, not sure if he feels like that was a good thing or a bad thing in retrospect.
