The Canes moved to 4-0 with a dominant 50-15 victory over USF. Mario Cristobal met with reporters after the game to discuss the win:

Opening statement: First time we actually trailed this year. The second half response, we played cleaner and better Miami Hurricane football. Hats off to the defense, just a tremendous job finally getting accustomed to the tempo. We can practice it all we want, and we did. We did everything we possibly could to simulate them. But they're difficult...

This team has really taken on Mario's personality and I mean that in the most complementary way possible. They are unified, hard working, goal oriented and absolutely relentless! They are all substance and little talk. This squad is the polar opposite of the average Manny Diaz coached team who were style over substance, shunned and mocked teammates who worked hard, were unprepared and folded at the first sign of adversity.

Mario deserves major respect for what he has accomplished for my/our beloved program. Whatever we thought about him before is completely irrelevant. He has built this team from scratch, by purging the cancer and dead weight and by instilling a work ethic and a mentality based on substance and action not cheap talk. What Mario has accomplished here thus far is both impressive and exciting and he isn't close to being done. Put some respect on this man's name!

I think that BS - celebrating and jawing - on early downs was hurting us more than people think in this game. I think it caused a lot of missed tackles on third downs and led to people being slightly cheated out of position. USF was trying to turn it into an aerobics competition and we needed to realize we’re football players, not Richard Simmons. Wasting that time and energy was costing us. That adjustment really showed in the second half and then USF ran out of gas with that *** sh*t

Def interested to see how USF plays the rest of the season. Their conference based on 3-4 games per team is really wide open. If they stay healthy that is a 9-10 win team potentially. But that pace is likely going to take its toll on the roster if they dont slow it down at times.

How do you know your team trust you and is buying into your culture??…. When u speak… they listen!
Great job by this staff it also helps they have grown men on this team who understand the big picture!

First half way too much talking, bad penalties, guys celebrating a play only to not get set up for the next play. Second half that was cleaned up and they dominated. Watched it again. Clean up those couple of things including the penalties in the first half and we put 60+ up on them.

UNRELENTING PHYSICALITY!!

What is Physicality?

Mario and his staff brought accountability, competition, talent and great character guys who respect the coaches on the staff. At the half, it was pretty clear Mario, JT etc weren't pleased and they were gonna hear about it. They listened! This team got better as a result of this game imo. GO CANES

I don’t think they’ll go at that pace against their G5 brethren. They’ll be able to run the ball more effectively and likely slow the game down a little.

They’ll still go fast but that ish was like Lashlee on crystal meth, 6 cups of coffee, and 28 four loko’s. Half their OL wasn’t even setup by the time they snapped the ball.

Thanks for the writeup @DMoney

You could definitely tell Mario, Guidry, and crew tore into them at the half. Every coach does that, the best part? This team is receptive and responds well to it.

There was a play that encapsulated this. I believe it was in the beginning of the 3rd quarter Kiko made a big play and his teammates came over to start celebrating with him. He simply pointed to the line of scrimmage, everybody stopped and hurried back to the line of scrimmage. It showed that this team cares and can adapt.

Yep. They cut that bull**** out the second half for the most part.

Really a bad job by the officials. A few times the chains weren’t even set and they were snapping the ball. Never seen that before

When you get hit in the mouth and have to play from behind that kind of stuff hurts you more than it helps. But you can’t go slow cause the speed is your game.

"...we had to show it in the way we played, not the way we talked. "

We'll know we're "back" when this is the outcome no matter who we line up against.

Wonder what he thought about Mooyoung grabbing that necklace from the crowd after his int and pretending it was a turnover chain. I bet he chewed them out for that lol.
