Manny Navarro on Guidry

I'm sure the defense will work with better with better talent but these results suggest a system with a low floor that puts a lot on the plate of the safeties and that so far has not been adapted to deal with limitations at safety.

Good safeties with great instincts that erase mistakes might not be common enough in the recruiting pool for Miami to get away with a system to goes to trash in the absence of that type of player.
he has DL guys with talent stunting into each other.

Wait is new CIS narrative now that Powell was some key piece on outstanding defense because their team made championship game?!
:jordan:

I know many dont watch cfb as a whole but last year Washington team was like our team now, lead by their ELITE OFFENSE AND QB PLAY, their HC is offensive guy. They dragged a terrible defense ranked at like 100th in total defense. I dont know who in the hetch did PR for meesh to make him instant leader and all but they need to get them on Cam Heisman campaign because he is a 6th year walk on from a **** defense who came here and became face and instant leader on another **** defense and actually have fans thinking UW was balling on that side of ball, what multi verse does this **** come from?! :ibis-roflmao-sm3:
All of season they said hey meesh was on a natty team so he gonna be good and its an upgrade lol

Defense for our game last year against GT with a healthy Jamal Haynes and healthy Haynes King. Before "the fumble" it was 77 passing yards and 99 rushing. Y'all are so convinced Guidry is the issue as if he didn't destroy this same GT offense when they were healthy. Those jet sweeps and counters were TFL's in this game, most of the time. If you don't see the difference in our Safeties play and general defensive leadership this year in comparison to last year. We need better absolutely need better Safeties. Not a Safety who's better at Nickel and the other who's so afraid if getting embarrassed that he embarrassed himself first.

There’s one DC that is give a blank check but idk if he’s ever going to coach college ball again. Jim Leonhard, the man is ELite
He's the DB coach with the Broncos making 900K and he signed a 1 year deal. I've been saying for weeks that Mario needs to shoot his shot with Jim Leonhard. He's one heck of a DC. I just don't know if recruiting is his thing. Not saying it isn't. Just that when you work for Mario it's a different thing altogether and if as a coach you don't enjoy recruiting then you can't work for Mario. Would also love to take a shot at Venebles if he were to get fired at Oklahoma.

If this program is truly serious about being a yearly playoff and national championship contender then Mario can't continue bargain shopping for coordinators. We need an elite DC. We may need a new OC as well if Dawson takes an HC job and in that case we'll need an elite OC as well and he cannot keep taking forever to make these hires.

Players definitely worse but I don’t understand this absolving guidry of blame stuff lol like we literally are struggling with stuff that should have been ironed out in spring and fall camp

Its game 11 and our players talking about we are working on alignment and communication lol, week 11 bruh. Nobody is setting edges in week11 bruh that’s a coaching issue

And its year two this isn’t the first time we see a coach fall off when more film is out on them

That was the selling line from the beginning.

Right now it feels like the whole portal haul outside of Ward could be traded for Caleb Downs and Miami would net ahead for championship odds on that trade

That's my point tho, last year that "film" didn't "expose" Guidry. Like I said, GT ran those same plays last year and it was a TFL. James Williams murdered those Jet sweeps last year. Meanwhile, our motion DB is late all the time this year and our LBs are hesitating when they square up to tackle. Please watch our gt game in 2023 and see how our defense looks vs motion and runs outside the tackle and compare it to this year. Our defense is very heavily safety driven. Last year our Safeties took lots of risky plays but they had balls and was all in with the mistakes they made.. it was boom or bust. This year, we have Powell who is trying to be a leader when he just ain't it, and Harris who's ***. Doesn't help that we also haven't blitzed our LBs as much. We stunted a lot against GT last year too, so that's not the issue.

Guidry is puts the Safeties in charge of adjusting the alignment and communication. They have the helmet communication. If you want to say we failed at replacing the Brains of our defense, than, cool, but it's wild to think Guidry never faced motion offenses at Marshall.

To be fair, we've gotten incrementally better at each coordinator spot each time.

So...I'd assume we can get incrementally better again?

Dawson will be in some HC decisions this offseason, for sure. Whether he gets one or not is another story.
Lanning is a first time HC and seemd to get it right, yet Mario who has been HC 3 times now can't getnthis **** right? Incrementally better means we'll seriously contend for a NC in 2030

Its on guidry to have guys prepared bruh lol, its that simple. You aren’t gonna have the same level of players every year. You gotta find a way to be better than what we are

And i remember people saying this safety duo is better than last year, james was trashed on here especially. People didn’t see the impact he had on our run defense and just pure physicality and iq

Not saying he never faced motion. Im just saying he deserves some of the blame, you just aren’t gonna be this bad week to week because of one thing. Its bad players and bad coaches

Lanning inherited such a better situation talent wise, it’s not comparable.
