Major factor for improvement

Is how our defense fares against an average QB. Will we be hearing Retting for Heisman or finally elevate our game and make him look average? If we see improvement in this area then its a major step in the right direction. O'Brien from Maryland last year was flawless in a downpour on opening day so hopefully our D comes to play.

It's on the defense. Year two D'Onofrio's defense should be an upgrade of year one. Better DL play and a year + experience for the linebackers will enable the secondary to make plays. I think the defense will be fine and get better each week!

I don't even know where to start.

It all starts with the D-line. We need a pass rush. And we need to stop the run and force them into 3rd and longs. It feels like we havent had a dominant D-lineman since Campbell was here. If we put pressure on Rettig it obviously with help our secondary immensely. Cant wait to see the new look secondary though. Gunter, Howard, Crawford, Bush, Jenkins. 5 new faces in the secondary that will see a lot of playing time. Let's see what they got.

"average" QB? Did you say "Average" QB?

Oh how the standards have fallen. We are playing against one of the worst QBs we could possibly face. He would not start for any team in the horrid ACC (except maybe us :O)

Morris when he is playing like the Mummy (the old skool, slow Boris Karloff Mummy, not the new one who can run,) standing out there, frozen solid, like Maryland, for example, is way better.

If this guy beats us, we are fin.

Happy with the win but allowing Retting to have a career high 400+ yards is frightning. Yes our defense played into it but this is an area where I wanted to see improvement and am not impressed at all. Lot's of positive changes on defense (tackling and going for turnovers) but the pass rush was flat out horrible. I will say it was nice to see Finnie on the corner blitz on 3rd down that forced a punt and set up on the perryman pick to have the OLB (don't remember who) come off the edge and have perryman waiting in disguise on the pass to go to that WR.

Showing a few different looks and have some more creativity on D compared to the vanilla 4-3 D relying on athleticism to make plays. Very different QB this week with KSU so if we continue to tackle the way we did it certainly should be encouraging

We are picking our poison. The longest run against us yesterday was 11 yards. I think as the DB's begin to gel, we'll see less of this. However, the pass rush yesterday was dog ****.
